Simply put – this is why President Trump is beloved by active and veteran military members.
During the President’s visit to South Korea, he eschewed what one official described as “cliché” – a visit to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) which separates the north and the south. A visit to the DMZ had become a longstanding tradition, started by former President Ronald Reagan.
“It’s becoming a little bit of a cliché, frankly,” one senior administration official told reporters. “And that’s why he’s going to be down at Humphreys.”
‘Humphreys’ is Camp Humphreys where Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in stopped in to have lunch with the troops.

Trump told the troops there was nowhere he’d rather be, promising they’d one day return home to good jobs.

“I had a choice of having a beautiful, very fancy lunch and I said no, I want to eat with the troops and we ate with the troops,” Trump told reporters.
And guess what was on tap for the President and the troops? It was ‘Taco Tuesday,’ of course.
“The menu was as it always is on Tuesday — Mexican food,” Stars and Stripes reported. “Trump had tacos, a burrito and curly fries.”
The manager of the grill at Humphreys, Sgt. 1st Class Michael Banegura, said he gave the President other menu options, but Trump insisted on eating what the other soldiers were eating.

“He said he’d rather eat with the troops than at a fancy restaurant,” Pvt. Merion Holmes said. “It made me feel like he cared.”
And there you have the difference between former President Obama and our current Commander-in-Chief in a nutshell.
Trump makes our military members feel like he cares.
