President Trump Drops “Climate Change” from List of National Security Threats

You can’t make this stuff up.

While former President Barack Obama was infamously weak on fighting Islamic terrorism, climate change was officially designated a national security threat.

Indeed, just two months before the 2016 elections, he officially designated it a threat in order to “make sure the U.S. military is prepared for a more unstable future.”

According to one “expert” defending Obama’s decision at the time, “climate change has contributed to the emergence of civil war, refugee flows and other elements of instability.”

Well, oh my! One second the average temperate increases by two degrees Fahrenheit, the next second civil war is breaking out!

There actually are people who attribute the emergence of terror groups like ISIS and Boko Haram to climate change, by the way.

“Climate Change and Water Woes Drove ISIS Recruiting in Iraq,” read one National Geographic headline. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that those factors (if they did exist) came second to religious fanaticism. Islamic terrorism is as old as Islam – not the climate changing.

Think that’s just a one-off mention? It was Obama who said at the Paris climate talks in 2015 that, “In some ways, [climate change] is akin to the problem of terrorism and ISIS.” He’s separately said, “today, there is no greater threat to our planet than climate change.”

It was a pretty absurd designation to give, and one that’s now a thing of the past. According to The Federalist,

The Trump administration has reversed course from previous Obama administration policy, eliminating climate change from a list of national security threats. The National Security Strategy released yesterday emphasized the importance of balancing energy security with economic development and environmental protection.

“Climate policies will continue to shape the global energy system,” a draft of the National Security Strategy slated to be released on Monday said. “U.S. leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth, energy agenda that is detrimental to U.S. economic and energy security interests. Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty.”

As for climate change, the draft report says “The United States will remain a global leader in reducing traditional pollution, as well as greenhouse gases, while growing its economy. This achievement, which can serve as model to other countries, flows from innovation, technology breakthroughs, and energy efficiency gains –not from onerous regulation.”

Well it’s about time.

Unlike the enemies Obama ignored, the weather isn’t one I expect to restock and reload following this news.
