Rumors have been swirling over the past few weeks that former President Donald Trump would like to be Speaker of the House. Now, he’s speaking out to respond to these rumors.
“[Trump] has zero desire to be speaker,” top Trump aide Jason Miller told Punchbowl News on Tuesday.
Trump Speaks Out
Trump himself was asked about this in an interview with Real America’s Voice the day before.
“Well, I’ve heard the talk and it’s getting more and more,” Trump said. “But it’s not something that I would’ve considered but it is certainly — there’s a lot of talk about it. I have a good relationship with Kevin [McCarthy] and hopefully we will do everything traditionally. But the election was a horrible, horrible thing for our country.”
“You know, we were always known for free and fair elections,” he added. “Well, it turns out they weren’t free, and they weren’t fair, and the world is watching. So I have seen talk about that, but it’s nothing that I’ve ever considered.”

McCarthy Speaks Out
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who is considered to be the frontrunner to be Speaker if Republicans win back the House, said last week that he believes Trump wants to see him take over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) position.
“You know, I’ve talked to President Trump many times. He tells me he wants me to be speaker, and I think he should be president,” McCarthy said on Friday, according to Yahoo News.
In his interview on Monday, Trump also said that he has never conceded the 2020 election.

“I never admitted defeat,” Trump said. “No, I never, the word is ‘concede,’ [and] I have not conceded.”

Trump Addresses 2024
Trump said last week that he has not yet officially decided if he will run for president again in 2024.
“We’ll be making a decision on 2024, but if you look at the numbers, people are liking me more than ever before, and I think the reason is they’re watching what is happening with our country,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity last Wednesday. “And I guess it is making me very popular.”
