Romance is ever so fleeting.

Steve Bannon, chairman of Breitbart News and former White House chief strategist, set off a political earthquake this morning when comments he made about the ongoing investigation into President Trump and Russia were published in the Guardian.

According to a new book by Michael Wolff, Bannon is no fan of the President’s son, Donald Trump, Jr. In fact, he called Don Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign an act of treason and unpatriotic. Here is Wolff quoting Bannon in his book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House”:

“The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor – with no lawyers. They didn’t have any lawyers.

“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad sh*t, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.”

Bannon goes on to say that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is planning to go after the Trump family for money laundering in order to extract a larger charge against the President himself. Bannon further impugns Don Jr., saying, “They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.”

Those are some pretty loaded statements. So it was unlikely the President was going to stay quiet about them.

And just now, President Trump has responded with a fiery statement, revealing the truth about Bannon’s role in his campaign and in the White House. This is some hot stuff:

“When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind.”

Wow. Not only did President Trump deny Bannon had anything to do with his historic victory against Hillary Clinton, he also accused him of leaking information to the press in order to hurt his own personal enemies.

This echoes what former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci said about Bannon. Back in August, Scaramucci revealed on Stephen Colbert’s late-night talk show that Bannon was indeed a prime leaker in the White House.

However you feel about Bannon, this kind of drama is not good for the White House, especially as a new year begins.
