Trey Gowdy Blasts Adam Schiff for Using Trump-Russia Probe to Further Senate Campaign

Rep. Trey Gowdy is not happy with the way in which the House Intelligence Committee has handled the Trump-Russia probe. Particularly, he’s unhappy with ranking Democrat Adam Schiff, whom Gowdy accused of making unsubstantiated claims about the investigation in an effort to win a U.S. Senate seat.

Gowdy tore into Schiff on Fox News Sunday. After Maria Bartiromo asked how much longer the Trump-Russia probe could possibly continue, Gowdy said that Schiff had bungled it from the start. “Some of my Democratic colleagues, namely Adam Schiff, said he had evidence, more than circumstantial evidence of collusion, before the investigation even began, so keep that in mind,” Gowdy said, adding, “The ranking Democrat on the House Intel Committee (Schiff) had evidence of collusion before we interviewed our very first witness!”

Gowdy further pointed out that, “Almost 60 Democrats voted to move forward with impeachment […] before the House Intelligence or Senate Intelligence Committees have released a single, solitary finding” that Donald Trump colluded with Russia.

When Bartiromo called that “infuriating,” Gowdy replied, “Well, it’s only infuriating if you have high expectations,” before going on to accuse Schiff of using the probe to further his bid for Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat. “[Congress] is not where serious investigations take place. It is where Senate campaigns in California take place, but it’s not where serious investigations take place,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy is right to be infuriated. After months of probing, congressional investigators and the FBI both have failed to turn up any hard evidence that Trump colluded with Russia to win the election. Instead, all they’ve found is mounds and mounds of evidence that the FBI colluded with Hillary Clinton to spare her from prosecution in the email scandal.

Clearly, Democrats like Schiff don’t care about upholding the law or what’s best for the country; they only care about what’s best for themselves and their political career.
