Texas Poised To Pass Law Allowing People To Carry A Handgun Without A License

texas constitutional carry

The Texas Senate has advanced a bill that would allow Texans to carry a handgun without any form of license.

It could make Texas the largest state to allow permitless carry – what supporters refer to as “constitutional carry.”

The legislation passed the Senate by a vote of 18-13 along party lines and heads back to the House which already passed a similar bill, before heading to Governor Greg Abbott for his signature.

Abbott has already indicated he would sign the bill.

“I support it, and I believe it should reach my desk, and we should have ‘constitutional carry’ in Texas,” he said last week.

In essence, the legislation means people 21 and older would no longer be required to obtain a license to carry a handgun, take a safety course, or be subjected to a background check if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a gun.

Texas Making Pro-Second Amendment Moves

The legislation nixing the requirement for a license to carry a handgun is yet another move to make Texas a “Second Amendment sanctuary state.”

Last month, Abbott praised Arizona for signing a law designed to protect firearm owners in the state from further federal legislation on gun control.

“This is what I’m seeking for Texas — a law to defy any new federal gun control laws,” Abbott tweeted. “It will make Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State.”

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) praised this new bill and said Texans have a different kind of permit to carry a handgun – the Constitution.

“I am proud that the Texas Senate passed House Bill 1927 today, the Constitutional Carry bill, which affirms every Texan’s right to self-defense and our state’s strong support for our Second Amendment right to bear arms,” Patrick said.

Biden’s ATF Nominee An ‘Enemy of the Second Amendment’

While Texas is recognizing that the Constitution represents the only license necessary to carry a handgun, President Biden is trying to get a gun-control advocate nominated as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

David Chipman, the nominee, is a gun control partisan who has argued for a “well regulated” Second Amendment.

Dozens of House Republicans are pressuring the Senate to reject Chipman’s nomination, calling him an “enemy of the 2nd Amendment.”

Biden has issued executive actions on gun control and called for banning ‘assault weapons’ and ‘high-capacity magazines,’ insisting that “no amendment to the constitution is absolute.”

“From the very beginning you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own, and from the very beginning of the Second Amendment existed certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons,” he suggested.

“So the idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution.”

  1. Once again 1) Off topic 2) Just another anecdote that means nothing 3) Nobody here cares, and 4) Aren't you going to be late for your psychiatrist appt? Stop typing, put that voodoo doll of Trump down, and get going. He charges you $450/hr (you do know he charges everyone else $95/hr, don't you?) What does THAT tell you, my "psychologically-challenged" pal?

  2. Amazing the effort and extent the FBI is going to find capital hill protesters. No effort like it to find antifa and blm rioters. We live in a country run by the deep state and their cohorts….democrats

  3. 'Constitutional carry'. I'm all for it. Will we have a few extra shootings? Probably, but those would most likely have happened anyway. While constitutional carry 'might' eliminate safety courses as a requirement, I'm sure responsible firearm owners will still sign-up for them. Firearm ownership, although an 'absolute' right, regardless of what the current dimwit in the WH says, still means the owner is responsible and accountable for their actions with the firearm. It's always been that way…it's just that the Left tries to 'redefine' words and terms to suit 'their' narrative and show preferential treatment to certain members in our society, while demonizing others. Will it become the 'Wild West', again? Doubt it. The 'Wild West' was not all that 'wild' to begin with. That idea comes from Hollywood years ago and the '10 cent' paperbacks that came out in the mid to late 1800s. It was actually safer and more civilized that most Leftist run cities, today. In fact, I'd feel safer in a rowdy 'cowboy' town, back then, than 'any Leftist run city, today.

  4. Say Oklahoma Governor Stitt, I Hope You Out There, I Sincerely Hope That You Will Follow In The US Constitutional Foot Steps Of Texas Governor Abbott, Sir!!!

  5. And the dumb-down, indoctrinated libs can't comprehend the difference between law-abiding citizen's Constitutional Right to defend themselves and a criminal's complete disregard for the law. In other words; if criminals are going to 'carry' with intent to prey on the public, then law-abiding citizens should have the legal right to do so as well, if they choose to do so.

  9. Vimeo Deletes Trump Ally Mike Lindell’s MyPillow Account
The video platform Vimeo has “terminated” the MyPillow account of Mike Lindell, the company’s CEO and a friend and staunch ally of former President Donald Trump. As of Wednesday afternoon, when users click on pages for the “Lindell Management” Vimeo account, a “Sorry, we couldn’t find that page” message appears for where MyPillow and Lindell content was once hosted.
“This is worse than what Twitter did to me and my company!” Lindell said in a brief phone interview on Wednesday. “This affects my business, the Lindell Recovery Network, and the entrepreneurs who I work with.” Lindell and his team received from Vimeo on Wednesday at 12:36 p.m. ET, and it reads, “Your account was terminated for violating Vimeo’s Terms of Service…and Community Guidelines. We do not allow accounts that upload content created by or mainly featuring a banned user. As the purpose of your account is to promote content from a banned user, it has been removed. We wish you the best of luck in finding a hosting platform better suited to your needs.”
Lindell has been a key financial backer and advocate for pro-Trump efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. In the time since Biden’s inauguration, he has stayed in touch with Trump and has also been embroiled in a legal fight with Dominion Voting Systems.

  10. Pennsylvania Grandfather Outed as Capitol Rioter in Wife’s Facebook Posts
A Pennsylvania man was arrested Tuesday for his role in the Capitol riot after his wife posted on Facebook bragging about his participation. The FBI say they received a tip that Gary Edwards, 68, of Southampton, had been in the Capitol on Jan. 6. Included in the tip were screenshots of Facebook posts by Edwards’ wife, Lynn Feiler Edwards, where she describes in detail how her husband entered the Capitol during the riot. “Okay ladies let me tell you what happened as my husband was there inside the Capitol Rotunda,” begins one now-deleted post. The FBI were then able to match a picture of family pic, posted to his wife’s page, to livestream footage and social media posts shot by fellow rioters, as well as to security footage from inside the Capitol. Edwards faces numerous charges, including willfully attempting to enter the House of Congress with an intention to disrupt official business.

  11. God Bless Grannies
A conversation between two grandmothers has led to a New Jersey man being charged for participating in the Capitol riot, NJ.com reports. Authorities say that days after the insurrection, the mother of Robert Petrosh Jr. of Mays Landing told her friend that Petrosh had been one of the mob who broke into the Capitol building. Her friend then repeated the gossip to her grandchild. In turn, the grandchild turned the information over to the FBI, authorities say. Petrosh’s mother’s friend’s grandchild wasn’t the only one sounding alarms about the South Jersey resident, according to NJ.com: On Jan. 10, an anonymous tipster told the FBI Petrosh had been on the steps of the Capitol building on Jan. 6. Then an FBI employee who had known Petrosh for over 15 years recognized him in security footage shot within the building, NJ.com reports. After taking a look at Petrosh’s driver’s license photo and comparing it to the Jan. 6 security footage, the FBI apparently knew they had their man. Petrosh turned himself in earlier this week, and on Tuesday was released on a $50,000 bond. He faces multiple charges related to the attempted insurrection.
