Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R) has signed a law designed to protect firearm owners in the state from further federal legislation on gun control.
The move took place just two days prior to President Biden’s announcement of several executive actions – and appeals to Congress for further legislation – he was taking on gun control.
The bill, dubbed the Second Amendment Freedom Act, doesn’t amend any current law, but as Ducey explains, is meant as “a proactive law for what is possible to come out of the Biden administration.”
State Rep. Leo Biasiucci (R) sponsored the bill.
“If the federal government does anything that tries to infringe on our Second Amendment in the state of Arizona, we’re not going to comply,” Biasiucci told Fox 10 in Phoenix.
Proud to announce that Arizona citizens now have an extra layer of protection regarding the 2nd amendment. My bill, HB2111, was signed by @dougducey yesterday! đșđžđœđșđž pic.twitter.com/et87HvysaS

Arizona Fighting Back Against Biden’s Gun Control
Ducey predicted there would be a need to fight back against the Biden administration’s attempts to implement gun control and infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of Arizonans.

“Thereâs a lot of discussion out of Washington, D. C., about congressional action around the Second Amendment, and this law was simply to protect the rights that we already enjoy in Arizona,” he told KTAR-FM.
Ahead of Bidenâs executive actions on gun control, Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) says:

Ducey’s comments about potential gun control laws, executive actions, or legislation from Congress, along with any trampling of the Constitution, were rather prescient.
On Thursday, President Biden called for lawmakers to consider legislation banning âassault weaponsâ and âhigh-capacity magazinesâ in his major gun announcement, insisting that “no amendment to the constitution is absolute.”
“The idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things weâre recommending are contrary to the Constitution,” Biden insisted.
BIDEN: “Nothing I’m about to recommend in any way impinges on the second amendment… No amendment to the Constitution is absolute. You can’t yell ‘fire in a crowded movie theater’ and call it freedom of speech. From the beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own.” pic.twitter.com/4dChTPgmQm

Second Amendment Sanctuary
Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) hailed Arizona’s new gun protection law as a model for something he’d like to implement.
“This is what Iâm seeking for Texas â a law to defy any new federal gun control laws,” Abbott tweeted. “It will make Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State.”
“Legislation is moving in the Texas House and Senate,” he announced. “I look forward to signing it.”

During his State of the State address in February, Abbott called on Texas to become a Second Amendment sanctuary due to the consistent drumbeat of anti-gun lawmakers.
“Politicians from the federal level to the local level have shouted: ‘Heck yes, the government is coming to get your guns,'” he said. “We wonât let that happen in Texas.”
That same month, Newton County in Missouri passed a bill that authorizes the arrest of any federal agents who try to infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of its citizens.
“Specifically, section 4a of the Newton County ordinance grants the sheriff’s department ‘full authority to make an arrest of any and all federal agents that violate state laws and enforce regulations’ that violate the Second Amendment.”

Part of President Biden’s executive actions include a call for restrictions on so-called “ghost guns” â handmade firearms without serial numbers â as well as a demand for a comprehensive report on firearms trafficking.
The President also directed the Department of Justice to publish suggestions for “red flag” legislation for states.
“Red flag” laws allow authorities to confiscate firearms from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others, without having been convicted of a crime.
