Texas Governor Takes Matters Into His Own Hands With This Decision

Last week, four Marines and 1 U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class (four were killed instantly, one died Saturday) were killed by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Abdulazeez was born in Kuwait and has visited the Middle East in recent years.

On Saturday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an order that Texas National Guard troops be armed while serving on military bases.

“It is with a heavy heart that I issue this order. After the recent shooting in Chattanooga, it has become clear that our military personnel must have the ability to defend themselves against these type of attacks on our own soil.

Arming the National Guard at these bases will not only serve as a deterrent to anyone wishing to do harm to our service men and women, but will enable them to protect those living and working on the base.”

Although it might be unpopular in Washington D.C. with Barack Obama and his administration, the move was followed by congratulations by many on social media:

Active duty military members and Reservists in Texas will still be subject to the current DoD regulations preventing the carrying of firearms on base.
