Texas Democrats were mocked as “pathetic” by radio host Clay Travis after a group began soliciting care package items for the lawmakers after they fled the state to avoid voting on election integrity bills.
Over the weekend, the official Twitter account for the Dallas County Democratic Party sent out a message to their followers requesting vital items for their colleagues who are currently ‘subverting democracy’ and/or simply avoiding work.
Critical items such as salsa and Dr. Pepper made the list, along with donations that would allegedly be used to pay for shipping costs.
“Our Dems in DC said they’d appreciate care packages from home,” the group wrote, adding, “we’re collecting Dr. Pepper, salsa, hard candy, hairspray, travel toiletries, hand sanitizers, sewing kits, first aid, and/or $ to pay shipping.”
? Our Dems in DC said they’d appreciate care packages from home. Before 5pm Tues, we’re collecting Dr. Pepper, salsa, hard candy, hairspray, travel toiletries, hand sanitizers, sewing kits, first aid, and/ or $ to pay shipping. TY!

Texas Democrats Want Care Packages
Clay Travis, whose conservative radio show now runs in the time slot once dominated by the late, great Rush Limbaugh, hammered the Texas Democrats.
“The Democrats who abandoned Texas are asking for care package donations?!” a flabbergasted Travis asked.
“They are grown adults in Washington, DC refusing to do their taxpayer-funded jobs,” he continued. “And they are surrounded by plenty of stores where they can buy whatever they want.”
“Pathetic,” he concluded.

Other observers on social media couldn’t help but poke fun at the Texas Democrats for soliciting care package donations after being the ones who put themselves in this position in the first place.
“They can have all their basic needs met when they go back to Texas and get sent to jail,” podcast host Comfortably Smug wrote. “The audacity of these people to ask for handouts when there are Americans struggling.”
Governor Greg Abbott has warned that once the Democrats return to the state “they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol.”
There is no word on whether or not the rec room in the Austin county jail currently houses a Dr. Pepper vending machine.
They can get this at the front desk of their luxury hotel. Also, the online reviews for the hotel restaurant recommend the crab cake sandwich with citrus aioli. Hope this helps. https://t.co/y9AQCWcrvf

Others pointed out that the Democrats, having fled the state on a pair of flights chartered by the Texas House Democratic Caucus at a price tag of $100,000 in order to break quorum with their Republican colleagues, are reportedly staying in $200/night hotel rooms.
A hotel that, odds are pretty good, have most of these items as complementary for guests or could be purchased at the front desk.
Also, room service is a thing.
No Miller Lite?
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) piled on the Texas Democrats and their little care packages by asking the obvious question.
“No Miller Lite?” he wondered, a reference to the infamous photo of the Democrats hightailing it out of the Lone Star State with a case of Miller Lite in tow.

Other items of note missing from the Dallas County Democratic Party’s begging for scraps:

Quarters and perhaps a floor plan of the Washington Plaza Hotel in Northwest D.C., where apparently Texas state Rep. Donna Howard is struggling to locate the laundry room.
You bet we’re recognizing & honoring our country’s heritage. As most Texans, tho, this is what we’re doing tonight—using whatever is accessible, uwashing our clothes in the sink. #txlege https://t.co/HC8uDSnWk5 pic.twitter.com/DoaatSCqmj

Copies of the book ‘Singing Lessons for Little Singers’ for those Texas Democrats who attempted – badly – to sing ‘We Shall Overcome’ at a press conference to prove their bravery.
This isn’t even good parody. Texas delegates start singing “we shall overcome…” –

Democrat Texas State Representative Senfronia Thompson last week compared a threat from Governor Abbott to have her and her colleagues arrested when they return to Texas to the plight of being a “slave” on the run.
“We refuse to be [hostages]…I am an American and I want to vote.”
We are simply asking for the right to vote. Democrats like Dean @Senfronia4Texas will fight as long as it takes to combat the exclusionary and discriminatory voter suppression attempts by Republicans. #txlege pic.twitter.com/b1WDc14ikK

Now they’ve been reduced to begging for salsa because, well, how can anybody live when they’re forced to eat plain Tostitos?
These people are truly the bravest of warriors in a tumultuous time for our racist and oppressive country.
What are some items you’d like to send to Texas Democrats in a care package?
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
