Texas Congressman Warns Terrorists Could Cross U.S. Southern Border

 A Texas congressman is warning of the consequences of a wide open U.S. southern border amid the stunning collapse in Afghanistan.

Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) posted a video to Twitter of his appearance on the Joe Pagliarulo or “Joe Pags” radio show warning Americans of “another 9/11” if the Biden administration does not close the southern border and stop illegal immigration.

Gonzalez took office in January in a massive district that stretches from nearly El Paso to San Antonio, covering a huge portion of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Not A New Threat

Gonzales placed the border blame squarely on Biden, saying, ““This is 100% incompetence by the administration. This isn’t the first time they’ve been incompetent. You know they’re incompetent the way they’re handling the southern border and it’s essentially keeping us insecure and unsafe at a time where the world is anything but.”

“And look, people on the terrorist watch list have already been captured, have already been caught, trying to come through the southern border. This isn’t a ‘it could possibly happen’ given a doomsday approach…This is real. This is already happening,” Gonzales said.

Rep. Gonzales isn’t the only person taking the terrorism threat through the southern border seriously. 

The recent collapse of the Afghan government to the Taliban has revitalized talk of global terrorism, and worries have always existed about terrorists slipping through the border.

As early as March of this year, not even a month into Joe Biden’s presidency, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) confirmed that since October of 2020, they had apprehended four persons with names that matched those on the FBI’s terror watchlist attempting to cross the border. Three of the individuals were from Yemen and one from Serbia.

A few weeks later in April, two more Yemeni men were arrested attempting to cross the border in California.

Gonzalez Not The Only One Warning

Rep. Gonzalez is not the only one who is issuing dire warning to the Biden administration about the dangers of the wide open southern border. Former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott issued a video message to Border Patrol Agents prior to retiring on Aug. 14. 

In the video, Scott said, “I firmly believe that it is a national security crisis. Immigration is just a subcomponent of it, and right now, it’s just a cover for massive amounts of smuggling going across the southwest border — to include TSDBs at a level we have never seen before. That’s a real threat.”

TSDB refers to the FBI’s Terror Screening Database.

Scott was given the boot by President Joe Biden in June on the same day Vice President Kamala Harris announced her trip to the border. Scott urged the Border Patrol agents to remain vigilant.

Rep. Gonzalez also said that, “If anything that we should learn from today (the Kabul attack), is we have to secure our southern border. We do not want to see the carnage that has happened abroad to happen at our shores.”
