Ted Cruz Issues Ultimatum to GOP: Tax Reform or Die

It’s undeniable that over the past eight and a half years, it’s been a good time to be a Republican.

Republicans took 1,042 seats at the federal and state level out of Democrats’ hands during the Obama Administration – a figure that includes the presidency, of course. Not only that, since Trump has taken office, Democrats have lost every single special election that’s been held. Heck, West Virginia’s governor announced in August that he’d be switching over from a (D) to an (R), proving that even when they’re not losing elections, Democrats are still losing.

That could all change in the blink of an eye, however. Remember, what did these Republicans campaign on? Smaller government, lowered taxes, and most importantly of all, repealing Obamacare, the last of which has proven to be a task they’re incapable of handling. Trump has since resorted to trying to kill Obama’s signature health care law through executive orders, essentially adopting a strategy of “death by a thousand cuts.”

Since the failure at repealing Obamacare, Congress has decided to focus on tax reform. President Donald Trump wants to see the corporate tax rate taken down from 35 percent to 20 percent, and have our current seven tax brackets consolidated into three. Ted Cruz is reminding his fellow congressmen that when it comes to tax reform, it’s do or die. The American public elected them for a reason, and if they suffer another high-profile failure (despite controlling both houses of Congress, and the presidency), it won’t bode well for their re-election campaigns.

Appearing on Fox News, Cruz said, “The reason people are so unhappy, they are ticked off. We have Republican control of every branch of government, and we’re not delivering. If senators don’t want to see those kind of challenges, there is an easy solution to that. Let’s do what we said we would do. Let’s deliver on tax cuts and repealing Obamacare. If we get that done, I’m a big believer good policy is good politics. We’ll have a terrific 2018 election year if we cut taxes, repeal Obamacare and the economy booms. If we don’t get any of that done, 2018 could be a bloodbath. We control our own fate. Deliver results.”

Don’t you agree?

If Republicans can’t deliver on what they campaign on, what’s the point in electing them in the first place?

Share this story if you think Republicans need to pass tax reform now!
