While President Trump has been in Singapore trying to hash out a peace deal between the United States and North Korea, the White House has been quietly trying to keep the peace within its walls.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway promised last month that mass firings would soon begin in an effort to flush out leakers. Now it looks like the trigger has been pulled and the exodus is starting. (RELATED: Kellyanne Conway is Furious After Recent White House Leaks- Promises Firings).
Politico reports:
As the White House communications department undergoes its snail’s-pace overhaul, another top staffer has left the building.
Special assistant to the president and director of rapid response Steven Cheung’s last day of work was Friday, according to multiple people briefed on his departure. President Donald Trump was abroad along with most of his senior staff, but Cheung’s last day still marked a low-key end of an era of sorts: He was one of the last remaining campaign-era Trump aides still working on the White House campus.

Everyone agrees the leaking has gotten out of control. Things that should have never been said are being pushed out to the press as a way of damaging the Trump Administration. It’s gotten so bad that White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders openly talks about firing people immediately after any hint of leaking. The Trump Team couldn’t have picked a better time to start the purge. With the world’s eyes on North Korea, few will pay attention to minor personnel changes at the White House. New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman confirmed that Cheung will likely be the first of many to be pushed out:

Now is the perfect time to clean house. And it looks like that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is trying to do.
