The politically-correct college atmosphere has claimed another victim, this time in the form of a school mascot named ‘Shooter the Fox.’
Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, quietly changed the name of their mascot due to recent mass shootings. As such, ‘Shooter’ is now named ‘Frankie the Fox.’
“Unfortunately, in our culture today, there is a negative stigma to that term ‘shooter,'” Athletic Director Tim Murray said. “And I just didn’t think it was appropriate for us at this time to perpetuate that term.”

Remarkably, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Murray didn’t associate the word ‘shooter’ with the action of ‘shooting’ until the Las Vegas massacre in October.
“Murray first understood the connotation of the name on the morning of Oct. 2, hours after a gunman opened fire on the crowd at a Jason Aldean concert in Las Vegas, killing 58 and wounding more than 500,” the Journal wrote. “On the news that morning, with the name of the gunman not yet revealed, Murray said he kept hearing the assailant referred to simply as ‘the shooter.'”
Um, yea … never heard a gunman described as a shooter before.
“Unfortunately, in our culture today, there is a negative stigma to that term ‘shooter,'” Murray said, seemingly serious. “And I just didn’t think it was appropriate for us at this time to perpetuate that term.”
Congratulations Marist, you just lost a fan. I’ll be boycotting the football and women’s basketball games until it is changed back. Shooter has nothing to do with gun violence. https://t.co/oct7HNQUM1

My understanding is that the guy who scores on a basketball court, a sport which Marist plays, is referred to as a ‘shooter.’ From now on players will no longer take ‘shots’ during the game, they’ll take ‘franks.’
It also seems safe to say that this guy will never be asked to make a commencement speech at the school any time soon …
Overall, despite the ridiculousness of the name change, Murray says he’s received a lot of positive feedback.
“We had a couple people who have commented,” Murray said, “but many of them frankly have been positive.”
If they were straight ‘shooters,’ they’d let you know you’re a dope.
