If Sheriff Joe Arpaio is looking for a last-minute endorsement from President Trump, this is probably the best way to get it.
Today, Arizonans go to the polls to elect the Republican nominee for Senate. Currently, it’s a three-way race between Rep. Martha McSally, State Senator Kelly Ward, and America’s favorite tough-talking sheriff, Joe Arpaio.
It’s expected that McSally will sweep the field, as she has establishment support, and Ward and Arpaio, both immigration hardliners, will split the anti-establishment vote. But, like in all elections, it ain’t over until all the ballots are counted.
And while Arpaio is largely considered to be running third in the race, the liberal media is trying to smear him anyway. A liberal reporter visited him on Election Day to get his thoughts on the recently deceased John McCain.
It’s well known that in conservative circles, McCain is not held with high esteem. And it’s not a mystery that Trump personally disliked McCain, and withheld a White House-approved statement honoring him. So when the liberal reporter asked Arpaio if McCain is a hero, she had to be expecting a doozy of an answer. The Sheriff delivered:
Me: “Do you think John McCain is a patriot?”
Arpaio: “Yes.”
Me: “A hero?”
Arpaio: “That’s hard for me to answer. Because I never had a hero in my life until several months ago when I woke up after 75 years and I found my hero. You know who that person is? Donald Trump.” https://t.co/OCjq8yhLYV— Kasie Hunt (@kasie) August 28, 2018

Like I said, if Arpaio is hoping for a Trump endorsement, this is the way to get it. Unfortunately for Sheriff Joe, it looks like Trump will remain neutral on the race. Plus, endorsing the day of the election helps nobody.

This wasn’t the classiest thing for Sheriff Joe to say. But it’s probably a shot of desperation as the race winds down.
