Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) Has His Own #MeToo Problem

A newly formed PAC in the Buckeye State is running an ad targeting Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), for allegedly abusing his first wife.

The group, called #MeTooOhio, is modeled after the modern #metoo movement and their mission is “…to hold accountable the men who hold on to powerful positions while having a history of domestic violence of women.”

Today, the PAC launched a new ad asking questions about recently unearthed legal documents showing Brown’s alleged history of domestic abuse. The ad demands that Brown resigns from his U.S. Senate seat.

Brown’s current wife, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Connie Schultz, is a far-left writer and activist who has promoted the #metoo movement. As Schultz wrote recently #MeToo women have changed America.”

Watch (below) as the ad states, “These court records show sworn evidence that Brown’s ex-wife accused him of abusing her. She said Brown assaulted her. A judge had to issue a restraining order.”

As The Plain Dealer reports, Brown had a contentious divorce in 1987 with Larke Recchie. After 7 years of marriage, Recchie said in her complaint that Brown “Has been guilty of gross neglect of duty and extreme cruelty.”

Things were so bad that she had to file a restraining order against Brown, as she feared for her physical safety.

Recchie was terrified and “in fear for the safety and well-being of myself and our children due to (Sherrod Brown’s) physical violence and abusive nature.” She alleged multiple occasions of being “intimidated, pushed, shoved, and bullied.”

The alleged abuse was reported by The Columbus Dispatch in 1989. According to Recchie, Brown pounded on the door and broke it, then assaulted her new husband, Joseph Recchie. Police reports were filed but both ultimately decided not to file charges.

Communications Coordinator of #MeTooOhio Alice Stewart said, “It’s the height of hypocrisy for him to claim to be an advocate for women with these disturbing charges in his past. It’s time to demonstrate, yet again, that women deserve to be believed.”

As The Free Beacon reported in 2012, Brown has been a strong supporter of the reauthorization efforts for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), encouraging additional protections for illegal aliens and LGBT individuals. Brown denies the allegations and Recchie now discounts her testimony as simply “angry words” from an unpleasant divorce.

Brown is now up for reelection for a 3rd term, running against Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH). Brown, who is now 65 years old, has been in elected public office for 43 years.
