Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has been embarrassed not once, but twice this week by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Earlier this week, while the federal government was shut down following Democrats’ refusal to help pass a clean spending bill, Sarah Sanders took a flamethrower to Schumer after the effete senator refused to come to the tablet to bargain on a solution to the DACA issue. Sen. Schumer claimed to not fully understand Trump’s position on offering legal protections to residents of the U.S. who came here as minors. Here’s how Sanders responded:
We’ve laid out that we want to make a deal on DACA, we want to secure the border through the border wall and border security, we want to end chain migration and we want an end to the visa lottery system. I don’t know what’s confusing about that. I know that sometimes members like Senator Schumer need a little help and guidance getting through big policy negotiations like that, but the president’s laid out what he wants and if they need help understanding it, we’d be happy to send some people over there to explain it to him.
BOOM. That was round one, and Sanders came out with a K.O.
Now, just last night, the White House put out a set of policy priorities when it comes to DACA, offering a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million people affected by DACA in exchange for funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, an end to the visa lottery program, and a big downsizing of the chain-migration program.
The offer is perfectly reasonable from the Democratic perspective. Not only will DACA-style protections be extended to more so-called ‘DREAMers’ than initially planned, but Democrats get a big spending project in return. So what’s not to like?
Plenty, apparently. Sen. Schumer has come out against the latest offer. He offered some empty thoughts on Twitter about the White House’s compromise:
As we have been urging him to do for months, the President has finally put pen to paper to show us where he stands on immigration. Unfortunately, this plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe. 1/2

While @realDonaldTrump finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hardliners have advocated for for years. 2/2

Of course, none of that makes a lick of sense. So now it’s time for round 2 with Sarah Sanders, who put on the big gloves to serve Chucky another K.O. Take a look:
Actually @SenSchumer America’s legal immigration system has been torn apart for decades by Washington politicians like yourself who prefer open borders & sanctuary cities over law & order and popular, common sense reforms https://t.co/dNBEn31BoK

You can call that a one, two knockout. It will never get old watching Sarah Sanders put Schumer in place.
Share this post with others now. Sarah Sanders just shut Schumer down!
