White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shot down the media narrative that President Trump doesn’t respect women, citing her own experience within the administration.
After addressing the Al Franken resignation that’s supposed to happen in the “coming weeks,” NBC reporter Hallie Jackson asked about White House procedures to ensure women feel comfortable.
She likely didn’t receive the response she expected.
“Does the president believe that he has a credible role in leading this conversation?” Jackson asked. “And can you speak to the specific steps this White House has taken to make sure the women who work here feel like they are in a comfortable environment to talk about these things?”

“I think that the president treats — certainly, as a woman myself, I’ve never felt anything but treated with the highest level of respect and been empowered to do my job,” Sanders responded.
“I think that’s what I’ve seen the president do, day in and day out, since we’ve been here and during the campaign,” she continued. “And so I think that’s a pretty good start and a pretty good example on that front.”
Jackson then pivoted to asking if the White House is having “sessions” or “seminars” regarding sexual harassment, to which Sanders responded, “All of us expect each person to live up and to meet those policies, and to not cross a line that is not only not legal but not appropriate or not ethical.”
Perhaps the media should be holding their own ‘seminars and sessions,’ considering numerous members of their industry have been swept up in these misconduct allegations.

Sanders’s comments parallel those made by another prominent woman in the Trump administration – Kellyanne Conway.
When Kirstjen Nielsen, the recently confirmed Homeland Security Secretary, was first nominated, Conway celebrated by praising Trump for “his practice of elevating and empowering women to top positions.”

Top women in the administration believe the president is empowering their gender and are treated with the “highest level of respect.” That’s not something that can be taught through ‘sessions and seminars.’ It’s something that has to be taught in a healthy work environment, something the White House is clearly encouraging.
