Texas Rep. Falsely Accuses Comedian Sam Hyde as Texas Shooter on CNN

Who is Sam Hyde?

If you’ve paid attention to the mainstream media after tragedies in the past two years, you may have seen him identified as the mastermind behind the Umpqua Community College shooting, the San Bernardino attack, the 2016 UCLA shooting, the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, the shooting of Alton Sterling, the suspicious death of a black man in Piedmont Park, Atlanta, the 2015 Paris attacks, the 2016 Munich shooting, the 2016 Kalamazoo shootings, the 2017 Finsbury Park attack, the 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting, the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting, and countless others.

In reality, Hyde is just some random comedian with a YouTube channel and now-defunct show on Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim.” It’s unclear how or why he became an internet meme, but it appears to have originated in 2015. When internet trolls actually succeeded in getting mainstream outlets to report him as the man behind any notable atrocity, it must’ve caught on.

You’d think that the media would’ve wised up to a hoax that’s been running for over two years ago by now, but apparently not – and neither have any of the geniuses in Congress.

According to the Daily Caller, “Texas Rep. Vicente Gonzalez mistakenly said on CNN that the suspect in the mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas was ‘Sam Hyde.’ On ‘CNN Newsroom With Ana Cabrera,’ the host asked, ‘And are you learning anymore about how investigators are now piecing information together? Do you know anything about the attacker?’
Gonzalez answered, ‘We don’t. It was reported to me that he is actually not from this community. Apparently, his name was released as Sam Hyde. That was a name I was given. We don’t know more details. I assume probably there will be search warrants executed probably later in the day. We will be trying to get to the bottom of this person’s life and what could have motivated him to commit such a tragedy.’

Hyde, of course, was not the shooter (nor has he ever been).

Prior to being blamed for every tragedy worldwide by the internet, Hyde was best known for a satirical TED Talk he gave at Drexel University after fooling organizers into believing that he was a journalist whose “work spans every continent.” For twenty minutes, Hyde gave a buzzword-loaded speech mocking the typical TED Talk. “Guys, pat yourselves on the back right now, okay? I’m not gonna let you stop until I see everyone do it,” he began. “That pat on the back is for saving the world.”

Among the other highlights include his predictions for the year 2070: “Facebook has your birth certificate!” “3D printers are kids’ toys!” “Video games are going to get more realistic!” “Soda Stream will do for soda what 3D printing did for assault rifles.”

It’s pretty hilarious viewing for anyone with the time on their hands:
