Plans Are Being Made to Bring ‘Roseanne’ Back to TV, With One Huge Catch

roseanne without roseanne

ABC is in serious financial trouble, as the decision to abruptly cancel ‘Roseanne’ could cost the network as much as $60 million. No matter what, thanks to union and contract rules, many of the show’s employees and actors will have to be paid for the entire 13 episodes of the second season, which was just about to start production. That result caused by that one angry tweet Roseanne sent to former Obama apparatchik Valerie Jarrett has a hefty price tag, as more than 100 people worked on the show.

The situation is so dire that ABC executives are reportedly ready to reboot the sitcom again, despite the political fallout. However, the rumor is they would do it with a replacement for Roseanne Barr as the main character!

First reported by TMZ, ABC is exploring options to rebrand the hit show around character Darlene Conner, portrayed by Sara Gilbert. Gilbert has already reached out to fellow cast members to get a sense of interest. Apparently John Goodman, a lead actor on the show, is “very interested” in the proposal.

Also, Carsey-Werner, the company that produced ‘Roseanne’, is fully on board with a potential reboot. And, despite ABC executives issuing a statement that they would not order the production of season 2 of the ‘Roseanne’ reboot, network executives are desperately trying to salvage the jobs of crew and cast members. CNN has confirmed the TMZ report, but notes that Roseanne’s financial ties to the production company could cause problems:

The sources confirmed this to CNN, but cautioned that any deal is complicated by Barr’s relationship to the show and Carsey-Werner. Depending on the terms of Barr’s contract, the production company may have to buy out her stake in the show.

“Barr has a significant financial interest in the series, and there is concern that a new iteration that would benefit her financially would be a non-starter for everyone involved,” Variety reported earlier this week.

One of the sources said ABC executives would regroup next week to talk about the options.[…]

The ideas were not entirely far-fetched. “Roseanne” has killed off cast members before — Goodman’s Dan Conner was revealed to have died in the original series finale — so why not kill off the matriarch and keep it going?

And if this reboot does happen, you can be sure they will no longer allow pro-Trump views and humor to be on the show. The show will promote liberalism, just like all the other shows on ABC.
