There are plenty of seats up for grabs in 2018 – and establishment Republicans may have accidentally helped drain the swamp by publicly designating themselves as Republicans In Name Only. Regardless of whether or not you believe the accuracy of the mainstream media’s polls on President Trump’s approval ratings (and we’ve reported in the past that they greatly oversample Democrats), his approval among Republicans is sky high (about 80 percent – higher than Reagan’s favorability among Republicans during his first year).
It was a few Republicans who derailed Trump’s Obamacare repeal attempts, and have voiced opposition to his immigration and tax agenda.
More recently, one of the prominent anti-Trumpers, Senator Jeff Flake, spoke out against the President on the Senate floor. In that speech he also announced that he wasn’t going to be running for re-election, and it’s because he knew he wasn’t going to win. That claim was initially my speculation, but Flake ended up quickly confirming it, telling MSNBC that “The bottom line is that if I were to run a campaign that I could be proud of and where I didn’t have to cozy up to the president and his positions or his behavior, I could not win in a Republican primary.”
And while he’s publicly acknowledged it, there are plenty of other Republicans that the same is true for, whether they want to admit it to themselves or not.
According to a new Morning Consult poll, anti-Trump Republicans have taken a beating in their personal approval ratings. These Republicans include Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Dean Heller of Nevada.

It gets worse. The three senators with the highest overall disapproval rating are Flake, Mitch McConnell, and John McCain.
Jeff Flake, in particular, saw a seven-point drop in his approval numbers before making them irrelevant with his retirement announcement.
What can we say, besides good riddance?
Republicans aren’t getting the job done, and they aren’t supporting our president. If they can’t play on the team, they can’t play ball, and it’s time for them to go home.
