Republican Congressman Collins Says Democrats Have ‘Trashed Everything’ to ‘Undo’ the 2016 Election

On Wednesday, Republican Congressman and ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee Doug Collins said that history will not be kind to Democrats and their push to impeach President Donald Trump. Collins also believes their efforts have everything to do with Democrats trying to win in 2020.

Collins told Fox & Friends that the House impeachment vote Wednesday is a “sad” culmination of Democrats’ obsession with ousting Trump and that they have “trashed everything” in their efforts.

‘They’ve trashed everything’

“They trashed rules in the House, they’ve trashed decorum, they’ve trashed everything. Because they had one purpose and one purpose only: to undo the election of 2016 when their own candidate failed miserably and their own policies have never been accepted by the American people,” Collins explained.

The impeachment vote is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.

President Trump sent a scathing six-page letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday comparing Democrats’ efforts to the Salem witch trials. In turn, Pelosi wrote a letter to her colleagues, saying they would be derelict in their duty should they decide not to vote on impeachment.

Democrats need 216 votes to pass the articles of impeachment, which should easily happen. Republicans expect a few Democrat defections from voting in favor. Most expect the articles will be voted into the Senate where a trial should begin in January.

‘I DID NOTHING WRONG!’

The Washington Post, reports that Trump and his legal team are already planning their defense.

Trump tweeted in response to today’s vote, “Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! A terrible Thing. Read the Transcripts. This should never happen to another President again. Say a PRAYER!”

Collins said Democrats aren’t even trying to conduct a “true investigation.”

“They just simply wanted to get at the president. So they said, at the end of the day, we can’t form any crimes. It started the day after he was elected,” he said. “And even this year, when they got the opportunity as a majority to impeach him, that’s all they wanted to do.”

‘What I would like to do is see this president continue to fight’

Collins told Fox News that Trump “simply came to Washington” to change things and “actually help people.”

“They are mad at him because he’s actually did what he said he would do. And, that’s the part that bothers me the most, because history will record that we are in some of the best times we have ever had while the Democratic Party is simply looking out for elections,” Collins said.

“What I would like to do is see this president continue to fight, just like he’s always fought for himself and fought for this country,” he added.
