Rep Mike Collins Asks: Should We Reduce Legal Immigration, Too?

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) took to social media to ask the public whether the United States should reduce its annual legal immigration intake.

As the border crisis rages on and the Joe Biden administration continues to render legal immigration unimportant by opening America’s doors wide to illegal aliens, Collins wondered if it might be time to look at the overall situation.

“In addition to stopping illegal immigration, do you think the U.S. should reduce our annual legal immigration intake?” he asked his followers on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The post generated a worthy debate.

To some, America has long been known as a melting pot of cultures, with millions of people from around the world seeking a better life. Others, however, argue that the current levels of legal immigration are unsustainable and changes need to be made.

Supporters of reducing legal immigration argue that it would help protect American jobs and wages, as well as ease the strain on public services and infrastructure.

They also point to the need for better border security and the enforcement of existing immigration laws.

X CEO Elon Musk recently noted the ridiculousness of the Biden administration’s non-effort to stop illegal immigration while allowing those who wish to enter the country legally to twist in the wind.

“While it is trivial to enter the United States illegally, it is insanely difficult for legal immigrants to move to the United States,” said Musk. “This is madness!”

Others disagree on the latter part of that statement and have, in the past, argued that levels of legal immigration should be reduced, particularly in times of crisis.

Political pundit Ann Coulter argued that when the Donald Trump administration’s travel ban from nations harboring terrorists was in play, the ban was too lenient.

Coulter went on to claim that a temporary ban on legal immigration would have eliminated any claims of racial bias in his ban and made the numbers more manageable.

“Don’t let in that many people then,” she argued. “It’s not that hard.”

Fox News host Laura Ingraham suggested a similar temporary ban during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that Americans who were going to experience catastrophic losses financially should be the priority.

America remains in an economic crisis today. There is an obvious border crisis, and taxpayer money is flowing freely to war-torn parts of the country instead of back to the American people.

The top two policy concerns amongst voters right now are the immigration and inflation problems. Would curbing legal immigration and shutting down illegal crossings help mitigate the struggles of the American people?

We Are Not A Nation Of Immigrants, But A Nation Of Citizens

Immigration advocates have used the phrase “we are a nation of immigrants” to push their cause, a blurring of the lines between legal and illegal.

But we are not a nation of immigrants, but rather, a nation of law-abiding citizens.

“We are a nation of citizens,” the great Mark Levin once declared. “And I’m sick and tired of the American citizen being demeaned and treated as second-class citizens while anyone who crosses the border is treated as the most virtuous human being on the face of the earth.”

Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT) has introduced a bill to place a 5-year moratorium on mass immigration. The moratorium would only be lifted in the event that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border in a year had been reduced to 10,000.
