President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump dominated the Super Tuesday primaries. It’s increasingly probable, if not certain, that they will face off in the 2024 presidential election.

That reality is causing Democrats to “hit the panic button” according to a new report from The Hill.

Interestingly, the analysis from that outlet notes two factors that are creating consternation amongst the left – the weakness of their own candidate heading into 2024 and the fact that Trump’s campaign is not falling apart as they had anticipated.

“Democrats are beginning to hit the panic button as an implosion in former President Trump’s campaign fails to materialize and a series of polls suggests President Biden is weaker than he was four years ago,” they write.

The implosion being referenced are the numerous investigations and criminal charges brought against Trump by the Biden administration or Democrat attorneys general.

“Many Democrats thought Trump’s legal problems would submarine him, but the Supreme Court in a unanimous decision on Monday ruled in his favor on a 14th Amendment case,” The Hill writes. “Other high-profile trials have been delayed, raising doubts about whether they will reach verdicts before Election Day.”

Another Trump-Biden Race Is Giving Dems Indigestion

It is perfectly understandable to analyze the race from the standpoint of President Biden being a weak candidate. Far weaker than he was even in 2020. Or regarding strategy in trying to court battleground state votes.

And, in fact, The Hill does mention polls in several such states delivering bad news for Biden, much to the joy of the Trump campaign.

What is most surprising is the admission that the Democrat Party was relying heavily on the legal system. Not the electoral system.

And that lends a modicum of credence to those critics who suggest these criminal pursuits were intentionally designed to interfere in the 2024 presidential election.

The report cites Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) who appeared outraged over the Supreme Court decision to review presidential immunity.

That move, as reported by The Political Insider, creates a potential delay in Trump’s trial until after the election.

Welch fumed that the decision was “outrageous” while insisting “there’s no excuse for that.”

Worse than the fact that Trump is not imploding but the cases against him are, is the idea that it’s actually resulting in the former President appearing to be stronger than before.

David Axelrod, a former senior political adviser to President Obama, tapped into that idea.

“All these indictments, all of these lawsuits and so on, have given him a chance to look indomitable, look strong, look resilient, and that’s actually in some ways helped,” he lamented.

Court Cases Are Imploding, Trump Isn’t

Efforts by Democrat-led states to keep Trump off the ballot went down spectacularly in the Supreme Court as well.

The unanimous decision in the Colorado ballot effort underscores how weak the legal arguments were against the former president. It again raises concerns that they have been pursued almost exclusively as a means to snuff out Biden’s biggest political opponent.

But wait, there’s more.

“The bigger concern for Democrats is that the criminal cases brought against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith in Washington and Miami and by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia are stuck in limbo and may not be resolved by Election Day,” The Hill writes.

They put all of their eggs in that basket of deplorables and they’re all getting smashed one by one.

It’s The Economy, Stupid

The column also notes that Democrats believe they are struggling to carry President Biden across the finish line in a race against Trump because, as they often contend, Americans just don’t understand that the economy is really good right now.

“Voters seem to focus on the data the least favorable to Democrats and emphasize that and tend to diminish the things that are in the works that will have a pretty substantial benefit on the American economy,” Ross K. Baker, a professor emeritus of political science at Rutgers University, told the outlet.

Biden is trailing Trump in polls of several battleground states, and the resistance party thinks it’s your fault for being ignorant to all the good things the White House has done for you.
