Rashida Tlaib Wants People to Hold a Hunger Strike to Shut Down ICE

Appearing at a fundraiser in Detroit this past weekend, Rep. Rashida Tlaib made an unconventional suggestion on how to shut down U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – a hunger strike.

Abolishing ICE has apparently morphed into abolishing food.

Tlaib told supporters that it will take more than Congress to put the radical progressive wish list of eradicating the immigration enforcement department into action.

“It’s going to take movements outside the halls of Congress,” she suggested. “I want you all to shut them down, we can shut them down. Don’t wait for this Congress to act, shut them down.”

Amongst other things, the Michigan congresswoman said she “plan[s] to” use a “hunger strike” to make it happen.

“I know what they’re going to say, they’ll go, ‘What do you mean Rashida?’ Well I’ll tell you. There are some people that are using hunger strike, all these other things, going to the border, and I plan to,” Tlaib told the crowd in attendance.

ICE Terrorizes

We’re not quite sure how Tlaib thinks a hunger strike is going to stop ICE, but we do know why she thinks extreme measures are necessary.

The progressive congresswoman believes the organization consists of officials who ‘terrorize’ illegal immigrants.

“ICE is terrorizing our communities with zero accountability,” she tweeted along with a link to an article titled ‘How to Abolish ICE.’

“ICE is a recent invention that makes our neighborhoods less safe, vindictively and cruelly tearing families apart,” Tlaib added. “I’m proud to stand with the growing movement to #AbolishICE!”

She took part in a petition with fellow extremist Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley, calling on Democrats to refuse any funding to ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

In doing so, Tlaib accused the department of killing children.

“We will not allow children to die while we are in power here,” she charged. “We will not vote for any more  funding that hurts our children, that hurts our immigrant neighbors.”

How to Beat the Hunger Strike

Should the radicals supporting Tlaib take part in a hunger strike, we strongly suggest ICE agents follow the lead of college Republicans at Yale University.

In May of 2017, students held a hunger strike to demand union representation and better benefits. Republicans on campus responded by holding a cookout.

Tlaib believes a planned hunger strike is the kind of necessary action because leadership isn’t ready to take “bold” action to abolish ICE.
