Rand Paul Has Part of Lung Removed Due to Assault, One Week After Ilhan Omar Appears to Endorse Attack

On Monday, Republican Sen. Rand Paul announced that he recently underwent surgery to remove a part of his lung that was injured after the assault on him by his neighbor in 2017.

“Unfortunately, I will have to limit my August activities. Part of my lung damaged by the 2017 assault had to be removed by surgery this weekend,” Paul tweeted. “The doctors, nurses, [and] staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center were great. I should be able to return to the Senate in September.”

Paul’s Neighbor Attacks Him

59-year-old Rene Boucher tackled Paul from behind at his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, leaving the senator with six broken ribs, pleural effusion, and, consequently, pneumonia. Paul told police that his neighbor “came onto his property and tackled him from behind, forcing him to the ground and causing pain.”

Boucher claimed he that Paul blew leaves onto his property while mowing the lawn. Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress which caused personal injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison. And, had to pay the senator over $580,000 in damages and medical expenses.

It was by any measure a vicious attack–which Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) openly mocked just a week ago.

Omar Appears to Endorse Violence Against Paul

On July 29, actor and outspoken liberal Tom Arnold tweeted, “Imagine being Rand Paul’s next door neighbor and having to deal with [Rand Paul] lying cowardly circular whiney bullcrap about lawn clippings. No wonder he ripped his toupee off.”

And Omar retweeted it. Some took notice.

Before Omar’s retweet,  Paul had criticized her negative attitude toward America.

“I’ve met people who have come here from behind the Iron Curtain. They got away from communism, they’re some of the best Americans we have because they really appreciate how great our country is,” Paul said in an interview. “Then I hear Representative Omar say America is a terrible place – well, she came here and we fed her, we clothed her, she got welfare, she got [schooling], she got healthcare, and then lo and behold, she has the honor of actually winning a seat in Congress.”

“And she said we’re a terrible country? I think that’s about as ungrateful as you can get,” he continued. “I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia and I think she can look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia – that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in the constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years.”

“Maybe after she’s visited Somalia for a while, she might come back and appreciate America more,” Paul added.

What Was She Thinking?

Even if this outraged Omar, since when is it okay for a sitting member of Congress to wish violence upon another member of Congress?

Is this the same Ilhan Omar who once complained about death threats? Why would she encourage or make light of Rand Paul being the victim of assault?!?
