Psaki Stumped: Can’t Name Biden’s Biggest Foreign Policy Achievement

On Tuesday, when White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by a reporter to name President Joe Biden’s biggest foreign policy achievement of the year, she couldn’t.

This exchange took place during the daily White House press briefing.

Psaki’s Non-answer

Voice of America’s Patsy Widakuswara asked Psaki, “What does the administration consider your biggest achievement in foreign policy in this first year? And also what lessons have you learned from what is arguably the biggest failure, which is Afghanistan?” 

Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan is undoubtedly the biggest foreign policy failure, as 13 American servicemen were killed in a terrorist attack at Kabul airport, an unknown number of Americans were left behind, and a retaliatory missile strike killed an entire family of innocent people.

Psaki replied, “You know, this is a great question.”

“I want to be thoughtful about it,” Psaki added. “I want to talk to the president about it.”

“And I’m happy to do that,” she finished.

That was it. Psaki never answered the question.

And people took notice.

Psaki’s non-answer brought out plenty of critics on social media. The Republican National Committee shared a video of the exchange on Twitter. 

According to The Daily Mail, Arsen Ostrovsky, an international human rights lawyer, wrote, “How embarrassing. The White House spokesperson cannot answer the simple question about what has been the Biden Administration’s biggest foreign policy achievement.”

“Or is it just possible there isn’t one?” Ostrovsky asked.

Earlier in the briefing, Psaki pushed back on the idea that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan had been disastrous.

“Let me just reiterate something that Tony Blinken said back in August, which is that if Americans who are in Afghanistan wanted to leave, whether it was three weeks, a month from now, two months from now – back in August – we would help them get out,” Psaki said.

“And that is something we have delivered on our word on,” she added.

Psaki Asked About Americans Still In Afghanistan

Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked about reports of 100 to 200 people left behind in Afghanistan and if the president planned to get them out. 

Psaki responded, “Certainly, he receives regular updates from his team and the State Department and other national security officials really lead this effort.”

She added, “The United States does not track or put a tracker on American citizens traveling overseas, whether they’re in Afghanistan or any country around the world.”
