Psaki Blames Trump For Biden Admin’s COVID Woes

On Thursday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the Biden administration would have done better in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic if had not been for former President Donald Trump.
Psaki made her comments during the daily White House briefing.

Psaki: ‘We Would Have Made Progress On Had The Former President Actually Addressed The Pandemic’
When asked by a reporter about comments made in the media and by some foreign officials that Biden has been “Trump-like” on key policy areas, the “unity President’s” press secretary Psaki did not hesitate to throw shade on Trump.
“Because we are in the middle of a pandemic, which by the way, we would have made progress on had the former president actually addressed the pandemic and not suggested people inject bleach,” Psaki said, lying about a debunked claim.
“So I think we are in a different place,” she finished. “I am happy to discuss more examples. I think people would be hard-pressed to argue that the president has taken any aspect of the former president’s playbook and use it as a model of his own.”

Psaki Rejects Similarities
Before trying to shift blame to Trump, Psaki described what she thought were real differences between Biden and Trump’s policies.
Psaki was asked why Biden has kept a Trump policy like Title 42 and also ended up withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan, which was a long stated goal of his predecessor.
“So, look. I could take each one of these – on Afghanistan, the former president struck a deal without the Afghan government that we heard the military convey yesterday, led to the demoralization of the Afghan security forces and the Afghan government,” Psaki said.
The press secretary added, “Where he also released 5,000 Taliban fighters into Afghanistan.”
Psaki said ending the war in the way Biden did was different than what Trump would have done.
“I would say the president took a pretty different approach than that in ending the war the former president did not end – something the American people strongly support,” Psaki said.
She added, “A priority for frankly getting out of the war in Afghanistan leaves space for us to spend more time addressing.”
On Title 42, which allows border patrol to force most migrants out of the U.S. due to the pandemic, Psaki told the reporter, “Title 42 is a public health requirement.”
