President Trump Warns Comey Not to Leak Info to the Media

President Trump issued a warning to former FBI Director James Comey, telling him he better be careful about leaking information to the press.

The message certainly raises the stakes in an ongoing feud between the President and the man he just fired for incompetence.

Via CNN:

President Donald Trump issued a thinly veiled threat Friday to fired FBI Director James Comey.

The tweet seemed to suggest there are possibly recorded conversations between Trump and Comey that could be leaked to counter the former FBI director if necessary[.]

Soon after tweeting the threat to Comey, Trump invoked former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who testified before the Senate earlier this week that he was not aware of any evidence demonstrating collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

In an amusing turn of events, members of the media started fretting over the legality of one person taping a conversation with another.

So essentially –

Trump: Obama wiretapped me.
Media: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Trump: I may have taped Comey.
Media: Can he do that?!

The President has been agitated over reports popping up in the media that offer conflicting views on why he terminated the FBI Director. Many of those reports have ultimately been false and irresponsible reporting on the part of the mainstream media.

One such report indicated that Director Comey had asked for more resources in the Russian election probe just days before he was let go.

“Totally false,” said Ian Prior, a Justice Department spokesperson. Comey “never made the request for more resources and money for the Russia investigations.”

Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe concurred in a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.

“It’s been widely reported–and you’ve mentioned this–that Director Comey asked [Deputy Attorney General] Rosenstein for additional resources and, um, I understand that you’re saying that you don’t believe that you don’t need any additional resources?” asked California Congresswoman Kamala Harris.

“For the Russia investigation ma’am, I think we are adequately resourced,” McCabe responded.

President Trump has consistently claimed that he and Comey had multiple conversations in which the FBI director assured him he was not under investigation for alleged collusion between his campaign and the Russians.

If Trump does indeed have tapes of Comey making such statements, it would be a game changer. But it’s a big ‘if.’
