President Trump Hosts Meeting With House Republicans To Discuss Challenging Election

President Trump on Monday hosted a group of House Republicans who have promised to challenge the election results in Congress.

President Trump on Monday hosted a group of House Republicans who have promised to challenge the election results in Congress.

Politico revealed that the group “strategized over a last-ditch effort to overturn the election results next month, according to several members who attended the meeting.”

The group consisted of roughly a dozen lawmakers regarded as ‘Trump loyalists.’

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said the nearly three-hour meeting was “a back-and-forth concerning the planning and strategy for January the 6th” and implied that “multiple” Senate Republicans are also on board with the effort.

He declined to name which senators.

January 6th will be the day that a joint session of Congress will be called and lawmakers officially certify the Electoral College votes from the 2020 presidential election.

House Republicans Meet With Trump To Discuss Election Challenge

Several members of the House were spotted at the meeting, with some tweeting details about what plans were discussed to challenge the election.

Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA), who recently demanded Attorney General Bill Barr conduct a forensic audit of the 2020 election, talked about the “big meeting.”

“I will lead an objection to Georgia’s electors on Jan 6,” he tweeted. “The courts refuse to hear the President’s legal case. We’re going to make sure the People can!”

Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and congresswoman-elect Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) also noted their appearance at the meeting, with the latter saying others are “on board immediately to #StopTheSteal on Jan 6th” and “we have more coming!”

The Union Will Hold

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who was also in attendance, responded to Democrat and media outrage that President Trump would dare challenge election results.

“A GOP President hasn’t been inaugurated absent some attempted congressional challenge to electors since 1989,” he tweeted. “And, somehow, the Union held.”

The meeting is the latest sign that President Trump has no intention of giving up the fight, despite certification of the election and despite receiving absolutely no help from outgoing AG Barr.

Barr on Monday said that while he is “sure” there was voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, he sees “no basis” for the federal government to seize voting machines and examine them for said fraud.

“To this point I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave,” he added.

The Daily Mail notes that Gen. Mike Flynn was in attendance at the meeting of House Republicans to challenge the election.

Flynn, who was recently pardoned by President Donald Trump, has suggested implementing martial law.

“He (the President) could order the, within the swing states, if he wanted to, he could take military capabilities, and he could place those in states and basically rerun an election in each of those states,” the General said in an appearance on NewsMax.

Politico explains that even if a Senator joins the House Republicans in forcing a vote to toss election results “the effort is almost certain to fail.”
