Poll Shows One Third Of Democrats Wouldn’t Want Michelle Obama To Run With Joe Biden

A new poll reveals that a third of Democrat voters wouldn’t want Joe Biden to choose former First Lady Michelle Obama as his vice presidential pick, even if she wanted to run.

A Surprising Number of Democratic Voters Wouldn’t Want Michelle Obama on a Joe Biden Ticket

A newly released CBS/YouGov poll showed that 65 percent of Democrats would support Obama’s selection, if she wanted the slot, while 35 percent oppose the idea.

Surveying black Democrats, 70 percent would like a Biden-Obama ticket, while 30 percent wouldn’t. Obama’s support falls five points to 60 percent with Independent voters, with 40 percent saying they do not want her on the ticket.

‘Draft Michelle Obama’ Group is Encouraging This

The poll showed varying results for a number of failed 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.

Elizabeth Warren received 36 percent support to run with Biden, followed by Kamala Harris at 19 percent, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar finished fourth at 13 percent.

The poll was conducted with a sample of 2,200 residents interviewed from April 28 to May 1, 2020.

A committee called “Draft Michelle Obama” is trying to encourage Biden to choose Mrs. Obama to be his running mate.

Biden said he would ‘take her in a heartbeat’

The group said in a statement earlier this month, “Joe Biden has said he would choose Michelle Obama as his running mate ‘in a heartbeat.’ The aim of this campaign is to build on the substantial grassroots support for a potential Michelle Obama candidacy and help garner media attention for a vice-presidential nominee who has the power to beat Donald Trump.”

Biden has said more than once he would pick Michelle Obama to be his running mate if she wanted the slot. In April, the presumptive Democratic nominee said that he would “take her in a heartbeat.”

“She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends,” Biden told CBS Pittsburgh.

Former White House official Valerie Jarrett doesn’t think there is any scenario in which this would happen, saying there is “no chance” she would agree to join the ticket.

“The reason why I’m being so unequivocal is that there just simply has never been a time when she’s expressed an interest in running for office,” Jarrett told The Hill. “She’s not demurring here. She’s not being hard to get.”

“She doesn’t want the job,” Jarrett said.
