Pelosi and Schumer Hammer Trump For Attacking ‘Peaceful’ Protesters – Then The Truth Came Out

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement condemning President Trump for using ‘tear-gas’ on ‘peaceful’ protesters, only to have the facts prove they were wrong.

The two prominent Democrats were addressing Monday’s walk by the President to St. John’s Episcopal Church which had been vandalized and partially set ablaze during violent riots over the death of George Floyd.

The President delivered remarks in the Rose Garden urging governors to “dominate the streets” and return law and order to their cities prior to announcing he was going to “pay my respects to a very, very special place.”

Leftists insisted Trump was able to make this walk because police in Lafayette Park overran peaceful protesters with tear gas.

Schumer and Pelosi were quick to jump all over the President for what they called a photo op. More than likely it was the church, the Bible, or the show of strength that offended their delicate sensitivities.

“Across our country, Americans are protesting for an end to the pattern of racial injustice and brutality we saw most recently in the murder of George Floyd,” the statement reads.

“Yet, at a time when our country cries out for unification, this President is ripping it apart,” they continued. “Tear-gassing peaceful protestors without provocation just so that the President could pose for photos outside a church dishonors every value that faith teaches us.”

The only thing being torn apart is the divide between the law-abiding and the lawless, the latter of which Schumer and Pelosi fall firmly on.

You’ll notice their statement provides no condemnation of the riots which have resulted in widespread vandalism, arson, and violent attacks.

Fake News

The problem with Pelosi and Schumer’s statement, along with liberal media reports which fueled the basis for their statements, is that it was, as is typical, completely devoid of facts.

Neal Augenstein, a reporter for WTOP radio, relayed information from the U.S. Park Police who explained their mindset in clearing Lafayette Square for President Trump’s walk.

First up on the fact-checking list (will Twitter label Democrat statements as false?) involves the tear-gas.

Huh. No tear-gas. But surely, smoke canisters for the protesters who were simply sitting there with their hands in their pockets citing Biblical verse is too much, no?

Well, the ‘peaceful’ part isn’t true either.

“The reason the crowd was disbursed with smoke canisters is that at that moment, officers were being pelted with water bottles,” Augenstein reported.

He added, “Another factor was that protesters had climbed on top of the structure at the north end of Lafayette Square that had been burned the day before.”

Reasonable people would have recognized the fact that Trump and Park Police were well within their rights to use force considering the site he was visiting had been set on fire, and it is likely some of those thugs responsible were still in proximity.

That, and he’s the President, who always has a right to safety and security wherever he travels.
