Since he became president, Barack Obama and the Democrat Party have been on a mission to destroy the Second Amendment by taking away guns from Americans. Now they have set the wheels in motion to stop those with Social Security benefits from owning guns.
According to Conservative Tribune, under this plan, those who have their monthly disability checks handled by others will not be allowed to purchase firearms. Essentially, Social Security recipients will be placed under the same restrictions as felons and illegal aliens.
This proposed gun ban could affect about 4.2 million individuals who are labeled by the government as “unable to manage their affairs,” and are therefore defined to have “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition or disease.”
Opponents of this plan have pointed out that preventing people from buying guns based on how well they manage their finances doesn’t make sense.
“Someone can be incapable of managing their funds but not be dangerous, violent or unsafe,” said Dr. Marc Rosen, a Yale psychiatrist. “They are very different determinations.”
Rosen added that this ban will likely stop many veterans from seeking help for mental health issues, as they will be afraid that they will lose their Second Amendment right in doing so.
Since the Obama administration demonstrated a total lack of transparency in launching this plan, the National Rifle Association was unaware of it until very recently, and they aren’t having any of it.
“If the Obama administration attempts to deny millions of law-abiding citizens their constitutional rights by executive fiat, the NRA stands ready to pursue all available avenues to stop them in their tracks,” said Chris W. Cox, the NRA’s chief lobbyist.
