Obama Brags About Supreme Court Ruling – ‘The Affordable Care Act Is Here To Stay’

Obama

Barack Obama took to social media on Thursday to applaud the Supreme Court for upholding the Affordable Care Act, saying that it is “here to stay.”

Obama Celebrates Supreme Court Ruling

“Today, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. Again. This ruling reaffirms what we have long known to be true: the Affordable Care Act is here to stay,” Obama tweeted.

“The principle of universal coverage has been established, and 31 million people now have access to care through the law we passed—with millions more who can no longer be denied coverage or charged more because of a preexisting condition,” he added.

Now we need to build on the Affordable Care Act and continue to strengthen and expand it. That’s what Biden has done through the American Rescue Plan, giving more families the peace of mind they deserve,” he added.

Supreme Court Ruling

This came after the Supreme Court upheld ObamaCare in a 7-2 ruling, determining that 18 Republican-led states lacked the standing to sue.

“We do not reach these questions of the Act’s validity, however, for Texas and the other plaintiffs in this suit lack the standing necessary to raise them,” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the majority, according to The Hill

The two justices who dissented were conservatives Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch. Alito claimed that the court was continuing a trend of fashioning novel rationales to preserve ObamaCare and criticized the majority for preventing the plaintiffs from “even get[ting] a foot in the door to raise a constitutional challenge.”

“No one can fail to be impressed by the lengths to which this Court has been willing to go to defend the ACA against all threats,” wrote Alito in the dissent. “So a tax that does not tax is allowed to stand and support one of the biggest Government programs in our Nation’s history. Fans of judicial inventiveness will applaud once again.”

Democrat Group Praises Ruling

The Democratic group Protect Our Care, which was founded to fight GOP repeal efforts in 2017, was quick to celebrate the ruling.

“The Supreme Court Has Spoken: The Affordable Care Act Is the Law of the Land,” the group said, adding that the decision “brings to an ignominious close a decade of Republican attacks on American health care.”
