NYC Braces For Mass Exodus If Cops And Firefighters Say No To Vax Mandate

NYC Braces For Mass Exodus As Cops And Firefighters Say No To Vax Mandates

Monday could go down in history as one of the more shameful days in New York City history if warnings about a huge departure of New York City police officers due to Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s vaccine mandate come to fruition.

Members of New York’s Finest have until Monday to be vaccinated or be put on unpaid leave.

According to the New York Post, the department has already sent guidance to officers who are prepared to leave duty rather than obey the mandate.

NYPD Rank And File Not Happy

Currently, one quarter of the NYPD is unvaccinated. Still more have filed for exemptions and would be allowed to keep working and get paid while the exemptions are pending. Those officers would be required to be tested weekly and adhere to stricter mask policies.

It’s not known yet how many officers are willing to hang it up.

President of the Detective Endowment’s Association, Paul DiGiacomo, estimates that upwards of 9,000 to 10,000 detectives and officers are eligible for some form of retirement.

DiGiacomo also hinted at another reason for what he described as a “rush” to vaccinate. “The only reason the mayor is rushing this is for his own political gain. He’s got intentions of running for governor and he has nothing to hang his hat on right now other than to say he has the most vaccinations in the country by forcing people to do it.”

FDNY Joins In

It’s not just cops, either. The mandate applies to firefighters.

Members of the NYPD joined members of the FDNY in protesting in front of the Gracie Mansion, home to Mayor de Blasio.

Andrew Ansbro, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, says that a lawsuit will be filed against the vaccine mandate by the union.

Ansbro added that, “This is a personal choice everyone wants to make for themselves.” He projects up to 45% of New York City firefighters could be terminated due to the mandate.

Such a huge number would be unfathomable.

Ansbro puts blame for any critical shortage of first responders at the feet of DeBlasio. “We’ve been here every day of the pandemic and we will still be here on Nov. 1. It’ll be the mayor that separates you from New York City residents and what happens to them will be on him, and not on us.”

First Responders Facing The Vax Axe All Over The Nation

Unfortunately, the men and women of the NYPD are far from alone. Vaccine mandates are springing up in cities all over the nation. Many of those cities are, unsurprisingly, cities that have been run by Democrats for decades.

Places like Spokane, Washington, Chicago, and Los Angeles are forcing police officers to make a choice between their careers and and complying with what some feel are unlawful vaccine mandates.

In Seattle, over 300 officers have left the force in 10 months. In Massachusetts, the state police union estimates they will loose 150 officers.

A Judge on Thursday denied a restraining order in order to stop the mandate from going into effect that the largest union representing New York City police officers had requested.
