U.S. To Hold Reception for Countries that Didn’t Vote Against Jerusalem Recognition

After countless prior presidents said they’d recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, President Donald Trump became the first to actually do so in early December. Trump also made the decision to move the U.S.’s embassy to Jerusalem. Immediately afterwards, the U.N. General Assembly passed a condemnation of Trump’s declaration, with a massive 128-9 margin.

Trump welcomed the hostility. All these nations that take our money and then vote against us at the Security Council or the assembly, they take hundreds of millions of dollars and billions of dollars and they vote against us,” he said. “Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us, we’ll save a lot. We don’t care.” Days later, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley announced a $285 million cut to the U.N.’s budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

She too had fired back at the U.N. days prior, telling them that the U.S. will be “taking names” of the countries who voted in favor of that resolution.

Surprisingly, despite the budget cuts, it wasn’t until yesterday that she said that U.S. would be taking our first move to punish those countries who opposed the U.S. moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

According to the Daily Caller,

Haley said “As I said in December, we won’t forget the Jerusalem vote. To that end, tomorrow night, we are having a reception for the countries who chose not to oppose the U.S. position. This is a great sign of U.S. friendship, and I look forward to tomorrow evening. We hope to see more of this in 2018.”

“The United States is asked to do a huge amount around the world, and we are happy to do that. But we expect to be treated respectfully in return.”

If President Trump is to follow through on his threat to cut all foreign aid to the nations that voted against us, the Daily Caller estimates it would save the United States over $24 billion.

What do you think about this? Is the U.S. right to hold a reception for countries that support our decisions? Tell us your thoughts below!
