Neal Kumar Katyal is an American lawyer and partner at Hogan Lovells, but is not a regular name among Washington insiders. He argued against President Trump’s travel ban on behalf of Hawaii a few months ago. But, now he’s praising the nominees the President has sent to the courts of appeals.
Katyal was so impressed that he told the audience at the Aspen Ideas Festival that Trump had hired some of the most qualified people to sit on the federal benches.
If you sit back and think about that a little more, Trump’s nominees have to be really good for an anti-Trump individual to actually agree with the President.

What makes Katyal’s comments newsworthy is that Katyal argued against Trump’s travel ban on behalf of the state of Hawaii in the Court of Appeals.
An audience member asked the panel, which Katyal was part of, if he thought whether the vetting process for federal judiciary vacancies is likely to produce qualified candidates in the future.
“I have actually been quite impressed with the Trump nominees to courts of appeals,” Katyal responded.
Katyal continued by telling the audience that Trump has nominated “some of the most qualified people in my generation, certainly conservative, but I think reasonable, smart, very accomplished individuals.”
“So that’s one…bright spot we have seen,” Katyal concluded.
Hopefully, these nominees get to their day in court – pardon the pun. Unfortunately, Democrats are obstructionists and are holding up the process while, at the same time, they use news cycles to tell Americans Trump isn’t getting anything done.
Let’s push our lawmakers to fight a little bit harder for President Trump and his conservative court nominees. We need them working to fix what Barack Obama broke during the last eight years.
