During her weekly news conference Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi downplayed the 9/11 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans as an “incident.”

Worse, she did so while defending Democrats’ record on open or very loosely monitored borders.

Pelosi was discussing her opposition to the Trump administration’s insistence on adhering to immigration laws and protecting children who are brought on dangerous treks across the southern border either by irresponsible parents, or adults who are simply using them to enter the country illegally.

The administration, she explained, believes “if you are a mom who wants to escape rape, murder and gang violence for your child, and you’ve tried to come to asylum in the United States, you are unfit, and we’re taking your child away from you.”

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has fought back on that assertion, saying “The vast majority … of children who are in the care of HHS right now — 10,000 of the 12,000 — were sent here alone by their parents. That’s when they were separated.”

Aside from spreading emotional falsehoods, Pelosi then claimed it was Republicans who dismissed recommendations to secure our borders after 9/11.

“When we had the 9/11 incident,” Pelosi claimed, “the commission was formed and they made the recommendations. They made recommendations to protect America, and some were about our borders, and Republicans would not take them up.”

Who would have thought that just 17 years removed from the most horrific terrorist attack on American soil would be described as just an ‘incident.’

“We have a responsibility to protect our borders,” Pelosi said. “All of our borders. Let’s make no mistake about that. Democrats have been strong on that point. All of our borders.”

Does she watch the news? Did she miss the part where top leaders in her party are calling for the outright abolition of ICE, the organization responsible for enforcing federal laws governing border control? The law enforcement group that monitors customs, trade, and immigration to promote homeland security and public safety?

Did Pelosi also miss the part where the Democrats have vehemently opposed construction of the border wall, calling it racist and xenophobic?

‘Democrats have been strong on that point’ my a**.

One thing she most certainly forgot – Pelosi once said illegal immigrant child detention centers should not be politicized … in 2014 … when Barack Obama was president. (RELATED: Nancy Pelosi’s Hypocrisy on Child Detention Centers is Incredible).

When asked about the humanitarian crisis at the border then, Pelosi said, “Well, I hope that while some may have tried to politicize it, I hope that was not the case.”

Yet, in a clear attempt to pander to her party’s pro-illegal immigrant base, she told a story on the House floor about her grandson wishing he could be ‘brown skinned’ and Hispanic. (RELATED: Nancy Pelosi Claims 6-Year-Old Grandson Wished He Could Be Hispanic For His Birthday).

“This was such a proud day for me because when my grandson blew out the candles on his cake, they said, ‘Did you make a wish?'” Pelosi said in her version of reality. “He said, ‘I wish I had brown skin and brown eyes like Antonio.’ So beautiful, so beautiful. The beauty is in the mix.”

Now she’s not just using her grandchildren as political fodder, she’s downplaying the worst terrorist attack our nation has ever seen to politicize the immigration debate.
