Lock Him Up?
Mediaite reports:
The former Republican National Committee chairman joined Ayman Mohyeldin on Saturday for a segment about Trump’s countless attacks against Judge Arthur Engoron, Special Counsel Jack Smith, and numerous others involved with his various court cases. While Mohyeldin found Trump’s conduct “not surprising,” he asked Steele for his thoughts about the potential “danger” from Trump’s supporters reacting to his incendiary rhetoric.
“It’s enormously dangerous,” Steele said. “I am shocked that we have allowed this to get this far.”
From there, Steele offered his suggestion of how to put an end to Trump’s antics:
Put his ass in jail! That’s how you end it. That’s how it stops.
Steele at least acknowledged that some people might not like imprisoning a major presidential candidate, who also just happens to be the former President of the United States.
“Now, yeah. People will be mad, they will be upset, but there is no other person on this planet, certainly not in this country, who would be given the kind of grace that Donald Trump has been given to run his mouth the way he has,” Steele added. “Attacking clerks, attacking judges, attacking the prosecutors personally, threatening them. We’ve shown the evidence when he does that, how his base responds.”
Steele continued, “And so, the system is getting pulverized from within by Trump…”
For the record: Locking up presidential candidates for behavior you don’t like is not exactly how democracy works.
Also for the record: legally barring political candidates from speaking is not democracy, either.

Steele has been a longtime Never Trumper
Steele has been part of the Lincoln Project, a group of Never Trump disgruntled former Republicans.
Steele said in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, expressing his frustration that President Trump might deviate from CDC orthodoxy, “This President stands at a podium today and not only contradicts his CDC director, but basically says he perjured himself under oath before Congress because he is saying something different than Donald Trump.”
“The CDC director is telling us the truth,” Steele insisted at the time. “Donald Trump is literally lying to us.”
“I am just so exhausted with this President, at this point… he added.
Two years later, CDC officials would admit that “dramatic mistakes” were made by the agency throughout the pandemic.
As of publication, Steele has not called for anyone at the CDC to be thrown in jail.
