CNN Contributor Blames Death of Mollie Tibbetts on ‘Toxic Masculinity’

Mollie Tibbetts toxic masculinity

Desperate to deflect any possible blame away from Cristhian Rivera, the 24-year-old illegal immigrant who killed 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, CNN’s Symone Sanders found something else to blame: masculinity itself.

Known for her insanely idiotic takes, Sanders put the blame not on Rivera, but on a culture of “toxic masculinity” in a bizarre tweet. I’m not sure Sanders even realizes that she’s unintentionally criticizing Mexico for having a culture of “toxic masculinity” given that Rivera was not a U.S. citizen, and can’t even speak English. Sanders said that Mollie was attacked because she said “no” to his advances, but again, Rivera could not speak English, and there is no account which includes Rivera trying to make sexual advances on Mollie which were rebuffed, leading him to kill her. Sanders literally just made it all up.

In another tweet, after blaming Tibbetts’ death on masculinity, Sanders said that we shouldn’t generalize people (except if they’re male, I guess). Also, has anyone noticed that the “don’t blame all illegal immigrants for one disgusting crime” crowd are the exact same people who have no trouble blaming the NRA for committing acts of evil they played no role in?

Somehow, Sanders’ tweets have gone viral, having been retweeted hundreds of thousands of times. Her fanbase must be really grasping at straws to explain how our failure to enforce laws wasn’t responsible for this senseless killing if they’re comfortable with an explanation like this.

Fortunately, there were some sane voices out there.

And if Sanders is so concerned with “toxic masculinity,” the prevalence appears to be higher among illegal immigrants, so shouldn’t she support stricter immigration control? While there are roughly 15 million illegal immigrants in America (about 5% of the population), they make up 22% of federal murder convictions. A study out of Arizona found that illegal immigrants between the ages of 15 and 35 are less than 3 percent of the state’s population, but nearly 8 percent of its prison population.

Whoever they are, there aren’t Mexico’s “best people.”

Sorry, Ms. Sanders – but “no” means “no” at the border too.
