Rep. Sues Federal Government over Illegal Alien Representation

Suppose for a second that it’s completely impossible for illegal aliens to vote and that no illegal has ever cast a ballot. That’s obviously not the case, but even if it was, it wouldn’t prove that illegals are unable to influence elections. In fact, there’s one massive flaw in how population is counted that allows them to come to the aid of Democrats.

While the debate over illegal voting tends to center around the frequency of its occurrence, it doesn’t have to occur at all for illegals to influence elections, because of a variable seldom discussed: each State’s electoral votes. It’s no secret that illegal aliens are disproportionately concentrated in the blue states, and the greater a state’s population, the more electoral votes they receive. In other words, even if illegals themselves can’t vote, they increase the value of blue state’s votes.

To combat that problem, Alabama Representative Mo Brooks, along with the State of Alabama, is suing the federal government over how illegal aliens are counted. In an interview with Breitbart News Saturday, Brooks said that Alabama is set to lose a congressional seat if the current system of counting illegals remains.

“We’re probably in the neighborhood of about 15 million illegal aliens in America now. 15 million comes out to roughly 20 congressional seats and 20 electoral college votes. Each congressional seat has roughly 700,000 to 800,000 people in it. So, if you count illegal aliens in the Census for the purposes of distributing political power, that’s the number of congressmen per state or … the number of electoral college votes per state, you’re talking about … 20 electoral college votes and congressmen that are taken from states that follow our laws, that help our border patrol agents, and help our ICE agents … shifting those 20 congressional seats and 20 electoral college seats to states like California that have large numbers of illegal aliens in them.”

Conservatives are on board with the common sense proposal in removing illegal alien representation:

Some red states with large illegal populations like Texas do benefit from this phenomenon, but blue states benefit to a greater extent. According to one estimate, California and New York would lose five electoral votes between the two of them if illegals weren’t counted in population totals, while red states such as Montana and Missouri would gain two. Texas would lose only one. The other seat gains are in purple states.

In other words, it’s established that the current system is taking at least six electoral college votes from Republicans, on net. Among the other states that would gain an electoral vote include Michigan, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Colorado, which often do vote Republican.

While extremely rare, there are elections that have been decided by smaller margins. Al Gore lost to George W. Bush by 5 electoral votes, while Rutherford Hates beat Samuel Tilden by 1 electoral vote in 1876.

Regardless of how small a 6 point edge in the Electoral College may seem, it’s still one that shouldn’t exist regardless, given that illegal immigrants are called “illegal immigrants” for a reason.
