MLB Legend David Wells Torches Bud Light, Nike For Going Woke And Ruining Sports

The legendary former New York Yankees pitcher David Wells is speaking out this week to slam brands like Bud Light and Nike for going woke and putting a “really big damper” on modern sports.

Wells Sounds Off

Unlike other celebrities, Wells is not afraid to speak out about how damaging cancel culture has been to sports.

“When I played the game, when I came up, none of this even was an issue,” Wells told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo. “And now with these companies that are coming out and jumping on board and trying to change the game and put a lot of politics in the game, to me, I think it’s confusing a lot of the players because they’re afraid to speak up.”

“But you know what? If I was making 30, 40 million a year and it’s guaranteed, I’m going to speak out, speak your mind,” he continued. “But to me, these companies are putting a really big damper, I think, on the game of sports because of the political stance that they’re putting on these guys.”

Wells Rips Bud Light

Wells went on to say that “there’s no question about” how things have changed in the world of sports marketing since he was part of the Yankees 1998 world championship team.

“Be what you want to be. I don’t have a problem if you want to be transgender, you want to be this, you want to be that, that is fine. But when you’re going to go in marketing and then you’re going to push that narrative and you’re going to push those values towards the other side and neglect the everyday consumer,” Wells stated. “A lot of people drink Bud Light, and to me, it’s just the wrong message to send.”

“They’re sending the wrong message. They’re doing it wrong,” he added. “You’re going to lose the customers, which Bud Light already did… But to me, Bud Light, they screwed up big time and they’ve lost it.”

This was a reference to Bud Light losing over $400 million since it teamed up with the transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney for a partnership back in April.

Wells Slams Nike

At another point in the interview, Wells addressed being spotted earlier this month with tape over the Nike logo on his jersey as he attended the annual Old-Timers’ Day festivities at Yankee Stadium.

“We’re in a different world,” Wells said at the time, according to The Athletic. “It sucks. That’s why everyone should carry a gun.”

“I hate Nike!” he added. “They’re woke!”

When asked at this event if he would ever drink Bud Light, he replied with an emphatic “No!”

Wells told Bartiromo that it was his love for the men and women serving in the U.S. military that inspired him to turn his back on Nike.

“When Kaepernick took the knee against our national anthem, and I’m a huge, huge military supporter, that’s what my foundation is all about, and for Nike to jump on board and reward this guy for that and the things that are going on, I told myself if I was playing in today’s game and we had Nike jersey, I’d tape it up. I’d cut a hole in it,” the MLB legend said.

There are few celebrities out there who have the guts to speak out against woke brands like Bud Light and Nike, but Wells is voicing what the silent majority of Americans are really thinking. We applaud him for courageously speaking out against wokeness, and we hope more celebrities will step up to do the same!
