It’s official. The Mitt is in!

As we reported earlier this week, Mitt Romney has, at last, made his decision to run for Senate in Utah. The decision was a long time coming.

Romney had been dropping hints for months, claiming that he’d seriously consider a bid if Senator Orrin Hatch stepped down from his post. When Hatch made it clear last October that he wasn’t planning to run for re-election, speculation exploded that Romney would run to take his seat.

In politics, speculation often becomes reality. And Romney, whose name ID and Mormon credentials were bolstered during his 2012 presidential campaign, will be a shoo-in for the Senate seat in the heavily Mormon state. Unless there is a tremendous blue wave this fall, expect to see “Senator Mitt Romney” in the Senate next year.

Romney released the following campaign video just minutes ago on Twitter:

Some observers noticed something strange in the announcement: a not-so-veiled jab at President Trump.

Daily Caller reports:

Romney appeared to take aim at President Donald Trump in his announcement saying “Utah welcomes legal immigrants from around the world, Washington sends immigrants a message of exclusion” adding that “people treat others with respect” at the Utah capitol building.

Gee, that sure sounds like the namby-pamby musings of a Never-Trump Republican if I’ve ever heard one.

Of course, Trump fully agrees with Romney’s statement, and only ever rails against illegal immigrants. You know, the kind who disrespect our country by breaking our laws?

Expect the media to latch onto Romney’s statement, however, and instantly label Romney a Trump antagonist in the vein of departing Senator Jeff Flake.
