Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced on Tuesday that the Senate will vote on Monday, October 26 to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The current open seat was vacated by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
McConnell told reporters, “We will be voting to confirm Justice-to-be Barrett next Monday and I think that will be another signature accomplishment in our effort to put on the courts, the federal courts, men and women who believe in a quaint notion that the job of a judge is to actually follow the law.”

McConnell: ‘The American People Deserve To Have’ Amy Coney Barrett On The Supreme Court’
This announcement by the Senate Majority Leader comes after the announcement that there are enough votes to confirm Barrett.
McConnell said that Barrett’s Senate confirmation hearings showed that the judge possessed “sheer intellectual horsepower that the American people deserve to have on the Supreme Court.”
Republicans have a 53-47 majority in the Senate and only two GOP senators have announced they will oppose.
The math indicates that Barrett will be confirmed, tilting the high court in an even more conservative direction for many years.

Democrats Likely Powerless To Stop Barrett’s Confirmation
Democrats have few options to stop the confirmation other than getting more Republicans to vote against Barrett.
Good luck on that.
Appointing conservative judges is a promise most Republican candidates and presidents make, and this has been especially true of Donald Trump – who has the opportunity to appoint three.
Whatever happens in November, a Republican senator undermining Trump’s effort to place one more conservative justice on the Supreme Court could be political suicide for many members, depending on the makeup of their states.

This Will Be Good For Trump And The GOP In 2020
If any more Republicans thought it was in their political interest to oppose, they would have announced their intentions by now.
In the end, the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the nation’s highest court might not be only good for America – but one of the best 2020 election plays in Republicans’ favor imaginable.
