For as much as he likes to advertise how progressive he is, when it was a black female police officer who was murdered, we barely heard a peep from New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. Officer Miosotis Familia was gunned down in the Bronx last week in a senseless act of anti-cop violence while she was guarding a troubled street corner.
Given his support for the Black Lives Matter movement, we know for a fact that he would’ve virtue signaled endlessly to the public had the roles been reversed, and a black woman was killed by a police officer. We’d then all be subjected to an endless lecture on how such an isolated incident proves that racism and sexism are still alive in America.
Instead of honoring the fallen, de Blasio announced that he’d be heading to Germany to attend the G20 Summit. De Blasio took a number of soft ball questions from the media while he was in Germany – but refused to take any more questions when a New York Post reporter asked if de Blasio had any response to the criticism he received from police, political opponents, and New Yorkers for leaving the city a day after Familia’s assassination.
He’s back in NYC now, and attended Officer Familia’s funeral, but the damage had already been done.
On Tuesday, hundreds of NYPD officers turned their backs on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio during the funeral for assassinated officer and mother of three Miosotis Familia.
The symbolic gesture by officers toward the anti-cop mayor was reminiscent of the funeral procession for assassinated officer Wenjian Liu back in 2015.
“Scores of officers who assembled outside the World Changers Church in The Bronx for assassinated police officer Miosotis Familia on Tuesday protested the mayor by showing the building their backs as speakers broadcast Hizzoner’s eulogy from inside,” reports The New York Post. “The officers chatted with one another or swiped through their phones during the mayoral snub.”

Serves him right. Mayor de Blasio left his city when an officer was shot down in cold blood to attend a foreign conference that has little to do with New York City. His disgraceful act will not be soon forgotten, especially by the police officers who protect NYC every day.
