Michigan Gov Whitmer Wants To Extend Lockdown To Punish Protestors

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer wants to extend the current coronavirus lockdown further to punish the protestors against it.

Whitmer: Protests Are “Irresponsible”

Thousands of protestors against the lockdown turned up to Lansing last week, demanding that Governor Whitmer ease the lockdown restrictions that they saw as hurting themselves, the economy at large, and infringing on their rights.

Speaking to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Whitmer said that what she is “concerned the most about” is a resurgence of coronavirus.

“When you saw a political rally… like that where people aren’t wearing masks and they’re in close quarters and they’re touching one another, you know that’s what precisely this kind of disease drag out and expose more people,” Whitmer argued, adding that the people that “came and converged together in Lansing,” and then went back home had “very high” odds of spreading coronavirus even further.

“It’s that kind of irresponsible action that puts us in this situation where we might have to actually think about extending the stay at home orders, which is supposedly what they were protesting,” she concluded.

This Is A Partisan Backlash!

I honestly couldn’t believe this story when I first read it. I know that Democrats have pushed many policies in the past that have endangered many more people than they supposedly help, but most of the time they believe in the idiotic policies that they’re spouting. This, however, is a policy borne purely out of spite!

Whitmer, like the other Democrats, is supposed to be following “the science” and “experts” during this crisis, so to say you’re extending the lockdown on that advice would make sense, but to do so because you don’t like that angry people who’ve lost their jobs are arguing against it is just insanity.

In fact, we know she’s not following the science. The Imperial College London report that came out at the start of this crisis that recommended tough lockdown measures actually stated that mass gatherings would have little effect on the spread of the coronavirus, especially if they were in open air, because people aren’t standing next to the same people all the time, and thus are less likely to catch it! Even if this were the case, the majority of protestors actually stayed in their cars, and practiced the exact social distancing measures that governments across the world have recommended.

We can really see now what this is – a partisan backlash against those who’ve been truly affected by this lockdown policy.
