Over the weekend, a video went viral of Fox News host Tucker Carlson being confronted at a fishing store in Montana as he shopped with his daughter.

On Monday’s episode of the ABC talk show “The View,” conservative cohost Meghan McCain defended Carlson and questioned whether this could be the beginning of a very dangerous precedent.

“As incendiary as many people find Tucker Carlson, they find the women on this show equally incendiary, for different reasons,” McCain said. “So if it’s OK and to be expected, maybe there’s an expectation that wherever we go, it’s OK for people to come up to us and scream things and say things.”

McCain went on to slam the man who confronted Carlson, saying that he was “a total jack***” and “incredibly rude,” and that he owes the host an apology for the confrontation.

Not stopping there, she added that allowing public confrontations to happen like this, even with controversial figures, is “a slippery slope.” McCain lamented the fact that she and her husband are constantly having conversations about what restaurants are safe to go to, and where they can take their daughter in public.

“I know how much people don’t like Tucker Carlson. People equally don’t like Meghan McCain and Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin and Whoopi and Sara,” McCain said. “When you’re putting your opinion out there, you’re making yourself a target.”

A spokesperson for Fox responded to the video in a brief statement.

“Ambushing Tucker Carlson while he is in a store with his family is totally inexcusable — no public figure should be accosted regardless of their political persuasion or beliefs simply due to the intolerance of another point of view,” the spokesperson told The Wrap.

Joy Behar Celebrates

One person who was happy about the confrontation was McCain’s liberal cohost Joy Behar, who felt that Carlson got what he deserved.

“He’s like the guy who’s on the lifeboat wearing a vest — or on the Titanic,” she said of Carlson, referring to his vaccine comments. “He’s wearing a vest and telling other people don’t wear the vest. This is what he thinks of his viewers. He’s more interested in ratings and getting attention than he is in his viewers’ lives.”

“There are people like this guy in Montana who will not have it,” Behar concluded. “And the fact that he was very, very nice about it you’ll notice. He did not become a threat. He just basically quietly said, you know, you are the worst human being for doing what you are doing. So you can’t really fault him on that end.”
