London Mayor Kahn Says Trump Doesn’t Deserve Visit to UK, Not in ‘Same Class’ as Obama

The President of the United States might be the most powerful man in the world, but London’s current mayor says Donald Trump does not deserve a state visit to the United Kingdom.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was interviewed on British radio station LBC where he reportedly said Trump was not “in the same class” as former President Barack Obama.

“Of course we should have a close relationship with the president of the United States, but we shouldn’t be rolling out the red carpet; we shouldn’t have a state banquet,” Fox News reports Khan said.

Obama had a state visit to the UK in 2011. His predecessor, President George W. Bush, did the same in 2003.

“History tells us only two presidents have had a state visit,” Khan added. “I think President Trump is certainly not in the same class as those two.”

Khan said he has a problem with comments Trump has made about women. “The impression is being given that you can get away from it — that you get a get-out-of-jail card. But it’s worse than that,” Khan said. “There’s a boasting and bragging, it’s almost like a green light for others to behave badly.”

The beef between Kahn and Trump is nothing new going all the way back to the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Then-candidate Trump made controversial comments about Islam when Khan became London’s first Muslim mayor.

But as the leader of a major European city, particularly in a country that has long been one of the U.S.’s strongest allies, what kind of ego must one have to suggest an American president has no business visiting his country in an official capacity?

Donald Trump was duly and fairly elected by the citizens of the United States. It was not Kahn’s choice to make. How dare he presume to speak for the American people and their interests.

How dare he not behave like a good and responsible mayor. Does Sadiq Khan really want to talk about who’s low class?
