Liberals are Horrified Anyone Would Attack ‘Child’ Greta Thunberg–But Did They Say That About the Covington Boys?

When 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg injected herself into fracas surrounding the U.N. Climate Summit in New York Monday, many began criticizing not only her political positions, but her facial expression when she unexpectedly saw President Donald Trump.

“President Trump hilariously upstaged liberal global warming activist Greta Thunberg’s speech before the U.N. Climate Summit in New York,” the Political Insider reported Monday. “Video emerged of Thunberg with a sour look on her face as Trump stole the show while she awaited her entrance. He was originally not scheduled to attend.”

TPI noted, “It is very much worth watching Trump brush past her without so much as a glance, a very different reception than Thunberg has been given from climate extremists propping her up as some sort of voice of authority on the topic.”

Many conservatives have had fun with this, including mocking Thunberg’s facial expressions.

The Federalist’s Ben Domenech tweeted, “We need to have a national conversation about the rising problem of arrogant teenage Swedes.”

She’s Just a Kid!

Yet such critiques elicited a near united reaction from the Left: How dare you make fun of a kid!

That’s actually a very good point. This is a 16-year-old girl we’re talking about. While many conservatives said allowing her to address a U.N. gathering or any adult forum was out of her depth and could be considered child abuse, many others just had fun with the whole situation despite her young age.

She is just a kid. Now if liberals would only follow their own advice.

Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk made an excellent point Monday when he tweeted, “The same people who say we can’t criticize 16-year old ANTIFA climate activist Greta Von Thunburg … Spent months shamelessly attacking the Covington Catholic High School kids — just because they supported our president”

Remember them? The group of innocent high school boys who came to Washington, DC to attend the March for Life who found themselves embroiled in national controversy through no fault of their own?

The Covington Boys Were Just Kids Too

Teenager Nick Sandmann’s face became the primary target of Leftist hate as he merely looked at a Native American activist who decided to get in the young man’s face.

Sandmann’s real “crime?” He was wearing President Trump’s signature “Make American Great Again” hat, thus making him Public Enemy No. 1.

Did anyone–ANYONE–on the Left at the time say, ‘Hey, these are just a bunch of kids. Leave them alone!’

After it was discovered that it was actually adult activists that cajoled the teenagers into unfortunate photo ops, many liberals began to mute their criticism. Few if any apologies were issued, but President Trump gave these kids their just due while calling out an irresponsible media.

“Nick Sandmann and the students of Covington have become symbols of Fake News and how evil it can be,” Trump tweeted. “They have captivated the attention of the world, and I know they will use it for the good – maybe even to bring people together.”

So perhaps it is true Greta Thunberg’s age should be considered before adults criticize her in any manner–and if the Left would follow this same principle, more adults across the political spectrum might be more willing to take this advice seriously.
