Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen Admits Abortion Is Their ‘Core Mission’

Leana Wen, the president of Planned Parenthood, admits that the core mission of her organization is to protect and expand access to abortion services.

It is a remarkable statement from the head of a group that has long downplayed the percentage of abortions that they perform in their facilities.

Wen was responding to a profile in Buzzfeed News, in which she was portrayed as trying to actively look for ways to expand non-abortion services.

As the head of Planned Parenthood, she took offense to the notion that she and her ilk might be looking for more reasonable ways to address childbirth, as opposed to killing the baby.

In doing so, she accidentally revealed that the “core mission” of the group is indeed a focus on abortion.

The Core Mission

Wen claims that the profile made it look as if her main goal was to provide non-abortion methods, a notion she takes umbrage with. She wants the world to know Planned Parenthood believes abortion is their number-one priority.

Even within her profile, that goal of aborting babies remains clear, if not the main point of the report.

“The last thing I would want is people to get the impression that we are backing off of our core services,” Wen said. “What we will always be here to do is provide abortion access as part of the full spectrum of reproductive health care, it’s who we are.”

The confession counters a narrative Planned Parenthood has been peddling for years.

No Longer Just 3 Percent Of Their Services

A 2014 audit showed that 323,999 abortions were performed by Planned Parenthood, though they frequently claim just “3% of the services it provides are abortions.”

The reality is that the group counts abortion as an equal procedure to minor services such as a pregnancy or urine test, despite the vast difference in both moral and financial implications.

National Review editor Rich Lowry wrote a list of analogies to argue that the 3 percent figure “is crafted to obscure the reality of Planned Parenthood’s business.”

Now that we know abortions aren’t a minimal portion of the Planned Parenthood business model, but rather a core mission, perhaps the federal government should rethink providing taxpayer dollars that ultimately go toward the killing of babies.
