In the latest in the ongoing saga of “will the media ever learn,” the attorney for Nicholas Sandmann, the former Covington Kentucky high school student who sued CNN and other liberal media outlets for defamation over an incident at the 2019 March For Life rally in Washington D.C., has joined the legal team representing Kyle Rittenhouse.

Rittenhouse was found not guilty in a case where he shot and killed two men who attacked him during race riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2020.

The Daily Caller reports that Todd McMurtry will head up overseeing decisions about who Rittenhouse files defamation lawsuits against.

The targets of the suits could include several media outlets and celebrities for making defamatory statements about Rittenhouse after his arrest and while he was on trial in 2021.

Holding The Media Accountable

Todd McMurtry explained a bit about how he would be helping out on the Rittenhouse legal team: “I’ve been hired to head the effort to determine whom to sue, when to sue, where to sue. We’re going to look at everything that’s been said, determine which of those comments are legally actionable and proceed from there.”

He also gave an example of just exactly what is meant by “defamatory” statements.

“Let’s just use for an example what Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg said about [Rittenhouse]. They said that he was involved in a mass murder incident. This was not a mass murder incident. It was clearly factually false. To call somebody a mass murderer is seriously defamatory. And then to use the power of social media to basically … censor any views that would take opposition to that mass murderer statement is a serious effort to destroy his character. And it was seriously mistaken and seriously defamatory.”

Fox News reports that there could be 10 or more cases against “large defendants.”

Nicholas Sandmann was with classmates from their Catholic high school attending the March For Life in Washington D.C. when photos emerged of Sandmann, smiling but saying nothing while standing in front of a Native American man, Nathan Phillips, who beat a drum and chanted.

The media immediately implied some sort of racial incident, instigated by Sandmann.

It was later disclosed that a group who call themselves the Black Hebrew Israelites were standing nearby shouting racial slurs at Sandmann and his classmates. Sandmann said, “I heard them call us incest kids, bigots, racists.”

After threats of lawsuits, CNN and NBC settled with Sandmann for undisclosed sums.

Kyle Rittenhouse faced the same media attacks. He was acquitted in 2021 of two counts of homicide, one count of attempted homicide, and other charges during the riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2020.

People from politicians to celebrities immediately began calling Rittenhouse a “white supremacist” and “murderer.” There was also a false claim that Rittenhouse had brought his weapon across state lines from his home in Illinois into Wisconsin.

There May Be Only One Way To Stop It

The media continue to push their liberal agenda by reporting on certain stories a certain way. But they are starting to be called out on their outright lying and false narratives.

On his podcast with cohost Dr. Drew Pinsky, comedian Adam Carolla put quite bluntly the best way to stop the fake news: defamation suits and other litigation.

“That’s the world we’re living in, people. Now, wake the f*** up, is what I’m telling you.”

Prior to Rittenhouse’s trial, Sandmann had some words of advice for Rittenhouse in an op-ed:

“Taking a life, for any reason, sticks with someone forever and yet the liberal elites would rather turn it into a joke for likes. So, if Kyle is prepared to take on another burden in his early life, with the acceptance that it might result in nothing, I answer, give it a shot and hold the media accountable.
